Random Technology??
Just seeing what you guys think or know about this brand. I know theres big talk about their catalytic converters. I was thinking about getting an exaust sysem from them to put on my 89 Camaro, but i might just go with flowmaster or one of the better name brands. I also looked for sound clips... but didnt find any for random technology. So I'm just posting to see what you guys think.
Random tech is a great brand! Their Cats are WAY too much money though. Their Cat-back system for our cars is one of the best bang for your buck system out there. Don't get a flowmaster, they are over rated, don't sound any good and are hardly a REAL performance exhaust. I would just part out a Dynomax "I" pipe and get a free flowing muffler like a dynomax ultra flow, spintech or the best of all, dynomax bullet with one tail.

I think you, and most people, would be happy with the Random Technology exhaust system. It's a very free-flowing 3" system, including full 3" tailpipes, with a non-restrictive straight-thru muffler design. I have it, including the cat, and I'm very pleased with it.
It's hard to describe its sound, though. It's smooth and deep, sort of like the 4thgen LS1. It's not really loud, but it can sound pretty powerful.
I hope to make a clip soon for the sound clip sticky above, which lacks the Random Tech system. But until then, my car domain page(sig below) has a link to the Corsa LS1 clip, which sounds very much like the Random Tech exhaust system. I've also got a couple of pix of the system there, too.
Another thing good about Random Technology is the company itself. If you have any questions, just call 'em up. They're very nice people.

I see...
Yeah I've seen a few people complaining about flowmaster. Thats awesome that it sounds deep and smooth, thats what i was leaning for. I guess its just a person's taste too. I will probably go through and buy their catback system. I'm glad i got some input on Random Technology, thanks guys!!

Post it???
I'd love to, but...
I haven't even made it yet!
Actually, I have made one, but it was with a friend's camera and program, so I don't have it. But I was happy with how it came out. So as soon as I get can make one of my own, I'll definitely post it. But don't hold your breath waiting, lol.
But doing some 'random' websearches today, I came across this article from Corvette Magazine online: www.corvettemagazine.com/1999/oct99/lt1/ltp1.asp
It's an article with dyno test results for the step-by-step build-up of an LT1, with the final step being the addition of Random Technology cats and mufflers. There are several pages, so keep clicking "click here to continue" on each page to see it all, including the charts. Condensing it all, here are the results:
Step 1) completely stock engine and exhaust: 293 rwhp
Step 2) + cylinder heads: 320 rwhp
Step 3) + MAF/filter mods: 327 rwhp
Step 4) + 52mm TB: 339 rwhp
Step 5) + ZZ9 cam: 382 rwhp
Step 6) + Random Tech cats and mufflers: 412 rwhp
Good? Bad? I'd guess that some people will take issue with the results, claiming that the results should've been better, or that other systems would've done better. Maybe, maybe not, I dunno. But the results look pretty good to me.
And this article had nothing to do with my choice of going with Random Tech. Like I said, I just did this search today and found this, but I purchased my system 2 years ago. I'm happy.
Edit: See post #18 below for the link to the new clip.

I have only heard a RT catback on a LS1 car. It had a hard hitting cam and LTs. I can say that it was extremely loud. Awesome sounding tone but Loud as hell. It may sound different on a Gen1 SBC....I dunno. I liked it

Ok, here's a clip of my exhaust. The engine is a completely stock 305 TPI/5-speed, and the only changes have been bolt-on upgrades(listed on page 2 of my car domain homepage). The exhaust system consists of:
stock exhaust manifolds
MAC stock-replacement Y-pipe
Random Technology cat
Random Technology cat-back
I let the engine idle down before revving it up. And I only take it up as high as 3500 rpms.
Ok, that didn't come out like I expected.
