Need L69 EFE?
Ever since I swapped the 350 in my car I've noticed an exhaust leak but couldn't tell where exactly it was coming from. Now I think its my EFE valve. My car was originally equipped with an LG4, but I replace the exhaust with Edelbrock's TES header for the L69, but still using the LG4 EFE. I just found out they're two different sizes, so is more than likely the leak.
Any ideas where I can locate an L69 EFE, mod this EFE or make something? I removed the butterfly from this valve and will do the same to the new one.

L69 EFE
Hey,
I may still have one of those valves left over from an engine swap. It came from my 1985 Iroc w/L69/T5 combo (now has 383 TPI/T56). I'm pretty sure I've still got it SOMEWHERE but I'll have to dig for it. How soon do you need it?

I purchased a new one from GM a couple of years ago, so that may be a possibility. I think I may still have mine around somewhere too. TPI cars used a spacer instead of the valve, which might be something to consider since both the L69 and TPI cars used the same exhaust--the spacer, of course, would require no modification.
For L69: Valve, W/Actr, EFE (GM 5234840)
For Lg4: (GM 5234845)
Spacer, C/Ovr Pipe 85-88 (GM 5234599)
Spacer, C/Ovr Pipe 89 (GM 5234327)
Spacer, C/Ovr Pipe 90-91 (GM 10113080)
The EFE is part of emissions, the spacer exhaust.
By the way, there was some controversy several years ago about whether the LG4 and L69 EFE valve was different or not (Note that the p/n's are different). Might be less restriction one way or the other with a simple spacer.

I'll probably need in the next couple of weeks. I was all set to put the car on the road when I found out the posi was no longer posi, so the job snowballed into a complete rear axle and suspension upgrade. (does't take much does it?
Thanks JamesC for the info, didn't know the TPIs and G used the same exhaust. GM Parts Direct can't seem to find this P/N. Know of any other sites with pictures?

EFE Spacers
James,
Do you know any difference between the below EFE spacer PNs?
Looking for one to use in place of the EFE with Edelbrock TES (L69 Monte Carlo).
Thanks

Well, in my case the LG4 exhaust was able to work for my TES L69 exhaust. The leak was coming from elsewhere, if that helps you at all.
Re: Need L69 EFE?
I looked into the EFE spacer PNs JamesC supplied.
5234599 & 5234327 are discontinued.
10113080 was actually a crossover pipe with a list price of $200.
Any suggestions? Anybody have one of these spacers?
Thanks

Re: Need L69 EFE?
The difference is the flange diameter.
However, NAPA and perhaps others, sell one (or did, anyway) that has the L69 diameter on the flat side; and the ball flange on the other side where the Y-pipe goes, is HUGE, such that it "fits" both the L69 and the LG4 Y-pipes. The inner diameter necks down inside the ball flange to the LG4 size. This valve "fits" both engines, but of course is a restriction to the L69.
If you get that one, and die-grind out the ID at the ball flange (and shorten the flange...) to where it's straight instead of necked down, it very nearly approximates the factory L69 piece.
Years ago, I did away with the valve in one of those by removing the blade from the shaft; cutting the shaft in half and removing it; and putting 1/8" pipe plugs in the holes.

Re: Need L69 EFE?
I know its been awhile and I never used the EFE 84ZMike had sent me, but since I took my exhaust apart to change my oil pan this weekend I decided to compare the two and thought I'd post what I found.
Looking at the header flange side there is no difference between the L69 and LG4 EFE. The y-pipe side is a slightly different story. The L69 is a 2 1/4" I.D. but my LG4 version tapers 1/2" before the opening to a 2" I.D., so it can easily be opened up with a grinding bit.
In my case (I've already gutted this EFE) I'm a little too lazy and a little too anxious to put my car back together to bother modding it further. Besides I think this 1/2" taper will have minimal effect on exhaust flow.

Re: Need L69 EFE?
Good info guys,
I been wanting to buy & swap out the LG4 Manifolds on my dad's IROC with a set of L69 High Output manifolds but cant seem to find any locally. I saw a set at the JY but i didnt have my tools and they crushed it the next day.
I hear all the Trans Ams had High Output manifolds??

You have great timing! I've haven't done much with the car lately but was just going through a box of parts and found the L69 valve I bought from 84ZMike. PM me if you're interested.

The one i have is the wide open, no butterfly one. No numbers on it. If you want the overall height of mine, please let me know! Gary. Mine is not H.O.!
