Just a quick header question.
Ok so I plan on getting some hedmen headers sometime in the spring and my question is should I get the non air tube headers or the ones with the air tubes? I dont plan on taking out my smog pump but I wont be running any cats as I reside in KY and I have no emissions inspections here. Will the air tube headers perform as well as the non air tube ones? Cheers Ryan

if you don't have to do emissions, get the non air tube hedders and ditch the smog pump and all the rest of power robbing emissions garbage you may have on there. If you're still using your ecm then you gotta figure out what you want...performance or a factory handicapped oversized smog pump in the form of a 305tbi

Re: Just a quick header question.
I just want a little more pep out of my 305 until I do an engine swap for a 350. How would I go about deleting the smog pump? Can I buy a pully for it, and if so, where? Ive seen AC delete pullies on Summit which I plan on getting sometime this spring but I haven't came across a smog delete pulley yet. And will I have to reprogram my comp if i take out the smog pump because I have no Idea how to do that.

You could do that (get a different belt), or get a delete pulley.
If you don't wanna buy a delete pulley, I've heard of people gutting out the pump and using it as a pulley. Does the same job from what I hear.

Just take the pump out and get a different belt. I did it on my 305 TPI and it seems to run fine. I also have the hedman hedders without AIR and no cat.

Just how much power do you think a free-wheeling pulley pushing air sucks up? 1-2 at the most.
Just remember, it doesnt matter what your state checks, the emissions devices on our cars are a FEDERAL requirement, and cannot be removed on a street car. But yes, the chances of you getting caught are slim.
The AIR tubes get in the way of changing the spark plugs, but they're liveable. Besides, if I can make the power that I do, run the ET I do, get 25 MPG, and still pass CA's draconion smog test, so can you.
