alright i just dropped a in 1972 355 with some goodies in my 84. My friend had some really funky headers that he gave to me. I put them on and found out that they have 3 bolt flanges on the collecters (DUH) and my STOCK y pipe has 2 bolt. So i have the choice of cutting the flanges off the y pipe and welding 3 bolts on them, or buying a different y pipe. Because cutting the flanges off the y pipe is going to be a huge pain in the neck im going to just buy one with 3 bolts. BUT i cant find one to save my life. Can someone point me in the right direction here? I would like to do a cat delete, and i have the 3 inch stainless magnaflow catback system, if that helps. And i would prefer to have 3 inch inlet and outlets. thanks guys

Part number on the headers would help a bunch, or even a brand name. Did you install your magna cat back yet?

headers are too rusty and you cant see anything. and yes, the cat back has been on for about a year now. He told me that the headers are dynomax. but i saw some on summit that look identical to the ones i have, and they were flowtech.

Could you please explain (or better yet post a pic) of how the cat hanger is mounted to your cat-back? Thanks.

I would take a picture but my camera is broken at the time. Im not sure what you mean about the cat hanger, but the cat has a 4 bolt flange. Which then connect to the Magnaflow's flange. im not sure if that answers your question.

Not really, the magnaflow has a two bolt flange, and i know that would bolt up to the cat. What im wondering is; the cat hanger that bolts to the tailshaft of the trany, how is that bolted to the cat back flange?

I think you're stuck with making your own y-pipe. All the headers companies have their own setups and they are different enough that you cannot mix and match.

Why do you want to do a cat-delete? Do you like breathing stinky air?

My cat-hanger is bolted to the cats' flange.

what you could do is get some 3 point flanges from a parts store or somewhere, then cut your 2 bolt flanges off, slip the 3 points over the y pipe ends, and then flare the pipe ends so the 3 points stay on. would be relatively painless and should work just as if it was from the factory.

if you cant find ne 3 point flanges, get a collector reducer kit from a parts store or jc whitney, or wherever, and steal the 3 points off of them. most reducer kits are ball/socket style, but if you got a straight up welded set, you could then just weld the reducers to the y pipe and cut of the 2 point pieces.

awesome, thanks to all who responded. I think ill go check the local autoparts store and see about the 3point flanges, like ModPog said. Ill let you guys know what i do, and maybe get a picture or two. Thanks again, it helped alot.

no prob, good luck with it! im getting headers for my 'bird this week and will be making the y-pipe from 3 inch tubing and doing a side exit exhaust with either a flowmaster muffler or dynomax muffler. neway, good luck hit back and let us know how it went!

Ok so i bought a y pipe, from summit. 1, it didnt come with the gaskets OR hardware that it was suppost to come with. 2, the freakin thing didnt fit. My life would be so much easier if Magnaflow made headers. which leads me to my next question, does Magnaflow made headers? lol

I'm pretty sure you have to get the matching Y-pipe for the headers. If you did, IDK whats wrong. For example, you can't put a Hooker Y-pipe onto edelbrock headers, the headers and Y must match.

well thats unfortunate :S what kind of y pipe did you get? should post some pictures if you can, to show how far of it is. if you have access to a welder, or could take it too a shop and they might be able to fit it to the car, depending on how far off it is. neway, hit back with some pics, good luck!
