Does this sound reasonable?

I've been asking around for price quotes. What I'm asking for is a 3" setup. I need a y-pipe and I would like the exhaust to follow the stock route then kick out in front of the rear passenger tire. I will be providing the cat and muffler. The local shops are saying $300-$400. Does that sound reasonable, gents?

Re: Does this sound reasonable?

Sounds fair to me. I paid 500-600 for my exhaust, custom built to fit with my headers, a new cat, flowmaster muffler and chrome tips.

Sounds a little high, is that stainless pipe plus tips?

Re: Does this sound reasonable?

why do you want it that short? I would run it all the way back as long as possible for best low end torque.

If you are asking for an entire exhaust yes. People pay around $150-$250 for Y-pipes.

As for exiting on the side? Check your state laws but in most states its illegal to have the exhaust exit before the passenger compartment ends. Aka, side pipes are not allowed. It may be legal in your state or not, but you'd need to check first.

Pretty sure you need a muffler to pass inspection. Has to be in the stock location in some states too.

Re: Does this sound reasonable?

No.

I should clarify: sounds reasonable, based on the amount of work and materials involved in terms of INPUT; but doesn't sound reasonable, based on the OUTCOME DELIVERED TO YOU.

Re: Does this sound reasonable?

I took my car to a few places yesterday...and I wish I could keep open headers. The cheapest price I was quoted was $420 for a y-pipe, cat and muffler with a turn down just before the rear end. I didn't think to ask at the time but all his work I saw was stainless. Inspections won't be an issue and the cops around here don't seem to care too much around here. I see vehicles on and around base here all the time running around less than legal an nobody gives them trouble.

Your car will be dog slow with open headers. LOL. You are kidding right? Put a full exhaust, with catalytic converters and mufflers on it for best street performance. On a thirdgen, you need a full exhaust to take advantage of the "low end torque" this car was built around. You are dealing with a TUNED port induction system and small cam.

Re: Does this sound reasonable?

Haha. Let me change that a little. I wish I could keep the sound of open headers. I did mention I will have a cat and muffler put on.

Re: Does this sound reasonable?

Just cause you mentioned mufflers doesnt mean they read it, lmao. I say this do whatever you want to do, it can all be changed later on if you dont like it. The biggest issue i have with the side exit before rear tires is some ground clearance. Nothing terrible.
