Trying to make power through shorties?
Yes I did a search, no I didn't find what was I looking for.
Anyway..
I have a set of SBC Shorties from Jegs, I was thinking of installing those in place of the stock manifolds, using the stock Y pipe w/ a cat delete, back to a single in dual out borla muffler and tips out the back.
Is this a good setup for reasonable power? Is the stock Y pipe really choking the engine up that bad that it shouldn't be re-used?
Details: 305 with a 600 CFM on top.

Cant use your stock Y. Stock y will work with stock manifolds and that is it. Every set of headers for these cars comes with a matching y that works with those headers. You need a y for those headers if you are going to run them.

Erm, don't see why. I threw SBC shorty headers on my 92' Silverado and they bolted onto the stock Y without a problem at all. The headers came with the car, that's why I even thought about using them haha.

This is not a silverado. Most of these guys know what they are talking about because of experience. You asked a question, it was answered and then you turned around and say " shorty headers worked with my silverado's factory Y pipe". Who gives a **** about your silverado? We are talking about third gens.

Calm down, jesus christ. It was a statement, because I was just surprised.. I figured everything was pretty generalized.

Re: Trying to make power through shorties?
I would say trucks are definitely more generalized. From everything I've read on here and doing research I dnt believe there are any headers out there that will just bolt in place of your manifolds w/o any Y pipe modifications.

Pipe is cheap, Put the headers on and build a set of true duals from there back. all you need is a set of glass packs and dump em by the rear wheels and put in a pair of low restriction cats if you need them.
