Magnaflow 16450 y pipe and UMI SFC clearance?
Just wanted to throw this out there and see if anyone has installed SFCs with a similar exhaust set up to mine, which is factory manifolds going soon to Magnaflow 16450 y pipe to a already installed Magnaflow direct fit cat and Magnaflow 3in cat back. I like the UMI 2400 and looks like a quality piece but just want to see if anyone else has tried this and what the results were?? The likely trouble spot is the additional brace on the passenger side getting clearance for the cat. I don't have the UMI SFC yet so if anyone else has a good suggestion for that set up I'm all ears.

I just installed the UMI SFC's. I have straight 3" exhaust and did have issues with the pass side. I haven't been able to install the third piece as a result.

That's what I worry about, does your set up follow the OE design? I contacted UMI and they want me to send them a pic to see if it will work. I saw on here that several ppl have not added that third piece on the passenger side, did the SFCs tighten the car up after the install? Still worth doing it etc?
Re: Magnaflow 16450 y pipe and UMI SFC clearance?
Exhaust pretty much follows stock but it sits a little higher/tighter to the chassis. I don't know if they had much effect as the car is still up on blocks until I finish some other mods.
I'm also going to be adding new headers and Y-pipe in hopes of making it clear the SFC better. If you can post a pic of your exhaust I may be able to tell you if the third piece will fit.

Kinda hard to get good pics in storage but let me know what you think, thanks again.

Looks like you have alot more clearance than I do. The driver side connector is no problem - you might have to use a c clamp to press out any heavy dents to give you a flat welding surface. The passenger side should fit fine but the third piece will be questionable - however it looks like you have plenty of room for it, though you'll still probably want to unbolt the front of the exhaust to install it.
Feel free to hit me up if you do get them and have any questions. Overall its not bad, but I advise running some practice beads on scrap metal joining 3/16" to 1/16" to get your technique and welder set right...My welders recommended settings were too hot and I burned through a few spots before turning it way down.

Sounds like it will work, I sent those pics to UMI and hope to hear the same from them. I’m thinking just replace the y pipe at the same time as the SFC install, should make it easier. Also I did ask UMI about the importance of the third piece and he said you could not add it but it does have significance...

That’s a solid idea, as long as you have something that gets it done it should be fine and it doesn’t need to be fancy. I did see BMR gives you 2 different pieces to accomplish that but I still like the UMI design more, that and it’s made in the USA. What Y pipe you plan on using? I found the magnaflow at a smoking deal and it matches the rest of my exhaust.
Re: Magnaflow 16450 y pipe and UMI SFC clearance?
Right on! Same here on UMI. I really like their products, customer service, and US made. I have a full UMI suspension sitting in front of me ready to go in once I get this other stuff done.
I bought a used set of 2460 hooker headers and matching Y pipe, however the Y pipe collector chokes down to 2.5" and my exhaust is 3. So I'll have to do some creative cutting on the Y pipe collector and slightly ovalize my 3" and weld it together.

Re: Magnaflow 16450 y pipe and UMI SFC clearance?
That's what has kept me from going headers on mine is the headaches associated with them but the extra power would be nice. The UMI customer service rep got back to me first thing this morning, said its tough to call with the pics but it likely will work fine with the disclaimer of anytime you add aftermarket you need to improvise a little here and there. Now to find the best sale on these, Jegs has $20 off anything over $200 with free shipping.
Re: Magnaflow 16450 y pipe and UMI SFC clearance?
That's part of the reason I held off so long on getting headers too. But now that I've removed so much uneccessary stuff from the engine bay I have alot more room to work with and I bought a new mig welder which works much better than my old one so fabbing stuff isn't as much of a headache.
I saw some dyno don's for sale on the forum here...those are said to fit really well.

I did, just delivered the other day. Got a good deal at Jegs and free shipping that was really fast. I might have a local custom shop do the install and the y pipe at the same time...thinking that makes the most sense.
