SLP header owners: how are the spark plug changes???

for those of you that may have the 1 3/4" SLP headers without AIR pipes, how hard are the spark plug changes? can you do them from the top? i don't have any smog stuff or EGR, or A/C / heater box. just wondering if i can still change them relatively quickly like i can now (with the gale banks twin turbo setup).

On my Z it is not too bad.I can do all of them from the top,I have basically the same set up as you,SLP 1.75",non air,no pollution and no A/C.The back two plugs on driver side can be a PITA but not too bad.

where is the O2 location on these SLP's with the y-pipe? is there any way i can keep my dual O2's that i have now? i plan on getting the SLP headers & Y and then run into a single Borla XR1 muffler (or something similar)...

thanks for all the info!

Tho O2 location is on the inside of the driver side collector(on the header itself),facing the motor.I imagine you could weld in a bung on the passenger side, but I have never really looked at it so I can't say for sure how you would go about it.Hope this helps some..

spark plug on v8/w headers

they are not to bad if you have the shorty plug made by accel the stock plugs leave the wire to close to the headers (trust me ive melted plenty of wires) they part number for the accel plugs is 8219(sb400)but the 350 may use the same plug so im told )i also upgraded to the accel extreme heat 9000 wires they are only 8mm but i havent melted them and they work pretty good with my Msd hei setup. i only have to get under the car to get on plug(you all know what one im talking about the #7 plug)

ac delco also makes them plugs check youre local dealer they just started showing up in the new gm performance

15-20 minutes to change all 8 from the top with SLP 1 3/4" headers no AIR. Saturday I had to change the plugs on my friend's RS, and remembered how bad it sucked to do them with manifolds and all the emmisions crap in there.

i have slp`s and what i did is grab a regular sprk plug socket pull the rubber out and cut about 1/2 an inch from the socket now it fits fine with regular plugs but you can`t use a ratchet u have to use a wrench for craftsman socket use a 19mm wrench

Yeah, my 1-3/4" SLPs even with AIR actually improved the job of changing plugs. Kind of a pleasant surprise, I'm not used to that.

Vice,

You using shorty plugs or stock length plugs? I've heard that the regular plugs work fine with stock heads and 90* plug boots. I'm doing the install and since you kept the AIR I asked you.

Thanks..Ed

Ed,

I'm using the stock plugs with 90* boots, and I'd say I've got a minimum of 1/4" clearance, although I haven't really looked that close. The only one I remember having trouble with was the #6 boot, and that was just getting it to snap onto the plug. It's a little crowded with the dipstick tube there.
