I'm finishing up my Rear Interior Brace. I got some pictures if someone can host them for me.
Thanks,

that is great and all, but fundamently there is no need for one in our cars. I will say the construction of it is nice, with the heims on it, but since the rear cambor changes are not controlled by the rear shock, it doesn't really get you anything.

see, the problem is...... we dont have rear struts.
on a car that does, (like the imports you see autoXing with the rear brace) the camber of the rear wheels is controlled by the struts..
in otherwords, how far the top of the wheel tips in depends on where the strut is.
on our cars, we have a solid axle. there is no strut or adjustment for camber... i suppose you could brace the axle itself, but you wouldnt really see much (if any) gain.
the shocks on our car only act as dampeners and limit the full travel of the rear end. they dont provide any suspension adjustment.

My real goal was to try and stiffen the rear of the car. I already have subframe conectors and a front Strut Brace along with a Wonder Bar. Plus it looks pretty cool.

In that case i think you would have been better off attaching with a welded in plate, to the rear frame rails (i use that term loosly). being attached to the stop of the schock mount, you still allow flex there, since that attachment point has a rubber bushing.
Please don't take this wrong, i am just offering up some advice on what/how to really accomplish what you are trying to do.

if you really wanted to secure the rear half of the car, i would brace from the LCA mount to the other LCA mount.
athough id think that the driveshaft would be in the way....

A few have done this over on the suspension/chassis forum, and noticed an improvement- I doubt they'd lie.
Ray, I like how you cut holes thru the plastic; looks clean. Any reason you went with the rod ends as opposed to just bolting (or welding) the bar right to the car?

Anyway I think it looks pretty cool. And I would say that if you don't have a roll cage, then this thing would def. stiffen the rear of the car. And since unibody cars are supported by the body, I say you have a simple and effective way to tighten things up...
If you had a roll cage I would say its redundant, but from those pics it looks like you don't...

shocks are "in" the corners of the rear seat.
his brace is in the back roughly over the brace that connects the panhard mount to the drivers side of the car...
he still doesnt have rear struts though.
Mr.Dude, I totally understand what your saying I just can't figure out why you quoted me. Dewey said something about the shocks and camber adjustments and I was saying that the brace wasn't attached to them but to the inner body panel. One thing I don't get is why he used sphearical rod ends or heim joints. With them in there they will allow the rod or brace to pivot so if there is any body flex it will just move with it. He has done nothing more than add a chrome plated bar to the interior of the car. The only thing I can see it's good for is it will stop stuff from sliding into the rear seat.

eh, its doing somthing as far as bracing.. its a forced into a parallelogram as it flexes... but i agree it doesnt do much.
reason i quoted you is to give credit for saying the shock thing first.
lol, btw rtkjadams, no flame intended.. and it does look good.

it's easy to see if something like this is really needed. Get 2 pieces of telescoping tubing and attach them between the points you want to brace. Then drive the living hell out of the car while someone measures how much the smaller tube moves in and out of the larger tube. You can also put a cable tie around the smaller tube right next to the larger tube, then see if the larger tube bumps the cable tie down the smaller tube. Some check the travel of their shocks the same way with the cable tie.

Actually, the only real reason to brace the shock mounts would be if you were running coilovers, and then bracing them to each other would be useless, unless the cross brace was used as a mount to brace to a cage, or tied into the SFC's.
I had an '82 with airshocks, and I poked the Pass. shock right through the mount. Had to weld in washers.
