I'm thinking about doing the same thing. Are you getting rid of the windshield wiper motor, or just removing it to do the firewall then reinstall?

leaving the wipers on might not be a bad idea.... it would definitly suck to be caught in the rain without wipers rain x would help but is not 100% effective

Check out this link. Keep in mind that third-gens firewalls are not straight to start with, the driver side firewall comes into engine compartment approx 1/2" more than pass. side. This doesnt seem like much until you spray the glossy paint and it stands out like a sore thumb. If you are still wanting to smooth the firewall on your car, let me know and I will give you some tips (that is my car, I did the work).

crazyn8, I want to smooth my firewall like that. Any tips you can give me are welcomed, especially when it comes to the seam that runs across the firewall. Beautiful car by the way. Any updates?

Both....Parts of the existing firewall were used (driver side) , one section was removed (pass side), and final finnishing to get it all smoothed out. I didnt use 2-gals of bondo and a 2 ft speader (although some people would). Didnt see the link before, sometimes I dont see what I see...sorry bout that deadbird

I just want a shinny, flat sheet metal to cover the holes and make it look smooth..

like this:
it's not finished and i think i am going to redo the entire firewall like the other picture post and go with a vintage air system later on. it looks great though but i think i want something show quality since i have yet again changed directions. it matches all of the lines around it in that area.

i welded steel behind the holes from the blower and the heater duct and then grinded the welds and then smoothed the firewall with fiberglass then a skim coat of bondo. i did hte same for the battery trays and also the sides where you put your hands in for the side marker lights. i just repainted the entire car in house of kolors kandy teal and also metal flake flames
