Will this work?
Alright I have a 1986 Camaro with the q-jet but at one point it had a Berlinetta front end on it. I recently replaced the front skin but around the hood latch theres a piece which seems to hold filters and I dont know if I need to use this piece. Can I just fab a piece that fits or does this serve a function? The reason this is a prob is because its broken and if it serves no purpose I might as well scrap it.

It sounds like the "filler piece" around the hood latch is from a fuel injected car. That's where the air filters were located on fuel injected cars ( V6 & V8 )
If your car has a Carb than that "filler piece" can be removed and a "filler" from a carb'd Camaro will fit right in it's place...... no need to fabricate anything !

Well how does that piece look and does it serve any function in directing airflow because if it doesnt look to good I may just see if we can fab up a piece. From what I saw you have two main screw holes and like 4 grooves that slip in under a screws? So I would just need a way to get to those holes, cutout for the hood latch and the cable? What does the piece look like when it comes around the hood latch?

When I say cheap, I'm talking like under $15.00. It's a piece of plastic. I personally wouldn't waste an hour or two of my time to "fab one up" if you can just buy one or get one at the junkyard, with the end result being the factory piece would probably look better. Any non TPI car has one if you want to take a look.

Alright most likely I will do that but to the best of your knowledge does it serve and purpose in directing airflow or anything like that? In other words would a flat piece that just goes over the top work fine?

i think a flat piece of something would work fine. i've got a filler from my car. i have the dual snorkel setup on it now. i can get you a pick of the filler piece, if you'd like.

I would assume it helps direct air through the radiator instead of over it. GM part# is 14019578 with list price of $18.37.
