Re: Rods by Troy Project Camaro- Bad A$$
there are several other post about this car in here...but I to cant wait to see it finish.
Re: Rods by Troy Project Camaro- Bad A$$
Still, it's been a long time since I've bothered to check if the gallery was updated. There's a lot of stuff I haven't seen yet like that front end. There's also a lot of stuff I don't understand about that car. I wish they had included some documentation, but I'm sure he's hoping for some discovery channel special or something.
It appears like they had something in mind when they started but then changed their mind as the project wore on. For example, why start with a t-top car, sandblast the top and then cut it out and go with a full roof skin? A guy like Trepanier has unlimited funds to find a straight hard top Camaro to start with. Then they went and mocked up the front end using the stock fascia, with cardboard taped to it, but then went in a different direction for the final design.
Also, what is the deal with the pic I've attached?

It's a shot of the floor pan, but what is the purpose of the channels inside the rockers? Is that where the frame ran? I didn't even bother to check if they went full frame or with subconnectors. Judging by the piecemeal frame horns they added to the front, I'm guessing some hybrid with a frame of types welded directly to the body.
Was there a reason they took the time to tape off the rear wheel wells in cardboard before making the sheet metal part? Maybe to provide rigidness to the pattern?
And why did they take the time to spray paint the cardboard mockup of the front end silver? Was there a reason for this or did they just want it to look nicer for the pics?
In some of those pics it looks like they held their cardboard mockup on with cleco's. There are wrinkles in some of the shots that don't appear to be metal.
There's a ton of great work done to that car. They have some amazing metal shaping talent, but they also have access to very expensive machines I will never be able to afford. Still, I learned a few things and got a few ideas.
But no matter how fancy and well done that thing is, I would cry the first time I bumped the curb with that steel front bumper.

Re: Rods by Troy Project Camaro- Bad A$$
Mathius, it's a full frame car with the frame rails running down each rocker panel. The sheetmetal floor inside is just draped over it. I'd expect that the silver spraypaint was to better visualize how it looks in real life and tweak the design before fabricating steel panels.

Mathius--
Thanks for sharing the pics!!
If part of your Q has to do with the diagonal lines on the floors,
yes you are right, the " bead rolls " add strength to the floorpans.

Re: Rods by Troy Project Camaro- Bad A$$
If it's a full frame car like JeremyNYR pointed out, then it's presumable that they had to do that to cover the frame rail. If you look up by the foot boards it seems to follow the contour of a frame, so that makes sense. The round thing near the center is quite possibly a body mount.

There is already a very long tread going started back in Aug. '09, regarding this car. There was really no need to start a whole new thread about it.

The foot room looks to be really tight due to the engine appearing to be set further back than stock. I wonder if they're going to move the steering wheel, pedals and seat further back than original also.

Yeah it looks really cheesy. Might as well do what that guy Leepoo does and just start with some random car. Skilled fabrucation, but not good looking.

Car looks awesome! i love the the 5th gen tailights they look better in the 3rd gen then they do in a 5th gen. He does some A1 work over their, i think i saw some twin turbos somewhere in the albums on his website, which by the way took me like three days to get through. LOL.

I hate the car, over-all, but do like the work done to the sides and taillight areas. I think the thing that takes it over the top are the "bullets" (For lack of a better term) on the front and rear corner and also the spoiler. Love the front fenders and door skins.

it probably won't see any street time, it'll probably sit in a garage, and not move, except for the occasional car show, which it'll be trailered to I'm sure.

I know this is an old post and I'm not an expert but I think the extra rails by the rockers are where the exhaust pipes will go. If you look at the floor plan there is no other place to put the pipes.
Weird though,, wouldn't that make the floor and interior really hot if you drove it more that two miles?
