Yes you can make yours a T-top car.The right way not hacked up? I think that would depend on your definition. You should call around to local fabrication shops and see what they think, unless your planning on trying yourself.

But remember, anything is possible if you can afford to pay for it

Re: hard top conversion to t top??

Yeah but aftermarket t-tops never work like originals & they leak. I've seen it happen. It's gonna be pricey.

One more thread on a very good way to do it is here:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/body...-top-roof.html

He has some good pictures and explains real well exactly what he did and why.
Most commenting said this seemed the best way to do this.

Re: hard top conversion to t top??

T tops are cool, no doubt. They are also unique. But if it was me, i'd consider lopping off the whole roof for a convertable. Or big sunroof (because its simple).

But thats just me

Re: hard top conversion to t top??

The frame on a car with t-tops is reinforced from the factory. Cutting the roof of a hard top, you'll lose rigidity and could bend the frame. Be carefull.

I am not sure that is correct. The verts have a little extra reinforcements. But there seems to be no difference between hard top and T Top for the frames as they both take the same subframe connectors etc.

People have twisting problems with both.

Re: hard top conversion to t top??

t-tops are not more reinforced from factory but you deffently need to weld in reinforcmentor find a way to keep it streight after cutting the roof .

seen ppl try to make targa tops from a t-top, good idea but only seen it successful a few times.

best way in my opinion is to cut the roof of of one and put it on urs so in the end it would be a lot cheaper because of already buying another car

best way buy a t-top f bodie that is striped for a few 100 bucks and swap your stuff over

I agree with that, would be way easier that way. But I bet you wouldnt need donor car. You could talk a salvage yard into letting cut it off like youd take any other parts im sure.

Still wouldnt be a small project by any means though. Youd have to cut each section from each roof at the exact same length.

Re: hard top conversion to t top??

I would trade for one straight up with someone that wants a hardtop instead. Do it to one that is in the same relative condition as yours for a easy and fair trade. No expensive headaches either.
