i'm not sure if pre-85 cars would be accurate.
my car is an 84, and i have a spid sticker taped to the underside of the console lid
i checked it against the vin of the car, and the vin on the title, everything matches up.
i think 82 and 83 models didn't get the spid stickers.

that metal cowl plate was discontinued after 1985, so 84-85 are the overlap years.. cowl plate AND SPID sheet. lucky putzes. Oh well the cowl plate doesn't really show that much info at all. just very few major options related to the body options and the interior layout. and week built.

ive had an 82 and several 84's and an 83 and all the 84's have had the SPID label in console and plate on rad support top side in plain view and nothing in the cowl like on other models of car, i dont know on the 88 yet except that it doesnt even have enough room on bottom side of console lid for a SPID label, but the builsheet was under the rear deck carpeting, ive got it right here in front of me right now, so thats all i need,
but yeah 84 was the first year for SPID labels in cars of all models that i know of, and trucks since 1967 in the glovebox glued to lid, all of them got one plus a metal card(protecto-plate) in the owners' protection book in the glovebox
good luck

i'm pretty sure that up through the 1990 model year camaro, the spid decal was located on the inside of the center console. i seem to recall a college classmate's 1990 rs having the spid glued to the inside of the console.
i'm thinking the one in my 84 possib;y came loose, and was taped to the underside of the console cover. does anyone else here have an 84 with the spid decal on the underside of the console cover?
i took some engine shots to show someone earlier this week, i'll see if i got a good shot of the metal tag on the core support. if not, i'll post a photo of the tag here over the weekend.

the cowl tag is what i call the rad support tag since is attached to rad support in actuality but on B-body and other body cars its indeed attached to actual cowl of the car body tub, just personal terminology differences, the tag doesnt have crap for info of RPO;s on it anyways no matter what its called
youre pretty much screwed in 83 and older
good luck
