First of all the Iroc races were using Camaros for the races in those years. GM paid to use the name.

Camaro comes from a French dialect and means friend. Chevy was really into using 'C' Names in the '60s.

IROC is the "International Race Of Champions" Its a race series, that at the time of the IROC-Z, used Camaros. When the IROC series quit using Camaros, Chevy dropped the name. They currently use Trans Am's, but I don't think they plan on making a T/A IROC...

That would be a double-whammy for GM! GM already has to pay to use the moniker "Trans-Am" which was derived from the SCCA's Trans-Am racing series.

It means Friend in french.
The org name was to be Panther but they thought it would be to close to Cougar. So they desided to name it Camaro & its been a friend to all of us F-body lovers every since.

Just a side note:The IROC racing series had been using Camaros since '74 till the name moniker's demise in '90. Camero...geeze..I would like to know what illiterate inbred came up with that name for the Camaro.

I just paid $140 for a 1970 Promo so that will take things up to 37 promos.

Keep an eye out for a guy on ebay with the Name Wheat. he sells a group of them at a time for a pretty good price & hes good to deal with.

A dealer that was at Super Chevy had a 35th anniversary camaro there for sale & they spelt it CAMERO as well. We as Camaro lovers went over & told them that they better change it or they will get a rash of chit from the Camaro owners. They did it was funny too.
