Power Antenna Q...
Hi,
I know a few of the sponsors on the site sell replacement power antenna's for our cars - but does anyone know if these are actually correct, or just generic replacements, and if so, who sells a correct unit?
I just want to make sure it mounts the same, has the same height mast, and uses the stock bezel, before I purchase one...
Thanks!

Hawks would be a good place to start. He should know...
I would really go with GM only BTW,

What I was told by the dealer, is that the one that they can get (~$185) is a generic... I'm looking to keep the car as correct as possible...

I went through this dilemma last year, and ended up getting a mint stationary mount off another 'Bird. It bugged me a little at first that it wouldn't be original, but in the big scheme of things, it isn't going to matter at all. It's a rather idiotic system to make the antenna go down automatically everytime the ignition is cut off, or go up everytime the unit is turned on (no antenna needed to play a cd/cassette). In fact, I think of the stationary mount as an upgrade to the power units, as it seems to get better signal.
I'm gonna eventually rebuild my unit, and put it back on in the event I decide to sell my car. GM used to sell replacement shafts with the plastic cord (the part that usually breaks). Don't think those are available anymore.

The OEM replacement ones I are Chrome, but I believe the Original Power antennas were painted Black on some cars... THats the difference, When its off it looks identical, and attaches to the car the same way.

If the motor is running but the antenna doesn't extend or retract it needs the internal cable replaced. This is a pretty simple job. Here is the part number for the cable if you need it:
Cable GM PN 22038195
Last I checked it was about $12 through GMPartsDirect.com. It should also be available through a local dealer.

82-88 Electric U75 (antenna with tube), GM part# 22048583. GMPartsdirect shows it as a good number. GM's price $111.38, their price $55.69.
Both the original and replacement antennas (electric) on my 85 IROC have been chrome. I've seen black but they were on fixed-mast cars.

I ordered one and not only was it universal, it didnt fit. The motor hit the body of the car. The upper collars were not interchangeable with the OE antenna, and did not fit the fender. I took it back.
