Transmission: Automatic 700R4
Axle/Gears: posi trac rear
Engine Paint Color
Does anyone know what the engine color was for the 89 RS 305, and was there a certain color for the chasis?

my eng. in my 89 r/s was black . eng. bay was body color . underneath body color & undercoating . engine now powers a 1950 phord p/u , daily driver . good luck .

The Chevy V8 from at least 1986 and up were Black. The TPI cars got silver valve covers. I want to think even my 1983 Parts car has a black engine... I sure can't see any color if there was any.

The general rule is that until about 1977, Chevy small blocks were the traditional orange color. From 1977-82 they were light blue. From 1983-on they were black. Trending Topics

There's also 'Universal Gloss Black', and 'Universal Cast Iron Gray'. I think either of those would look okay in a 3rd gen.

There's a color in my Eastwood magazine labeled as 'GM Corporate Blue' and it says "1977-on". It sure looks darker than what I see under the hood of 2nd gens. Maybe it fades over the years.
There's also 'Universal Gloss Black', and 'Universal Cast Iron Gray'. I think either of those would look okay in a 3rd gen.
