3rdgens in old magazines! #4

My buddy 1brd2brd3brd4 found some oooold magazines awhile back that had 3rdgens in them. I offered to scan them in and share with TGO! Thanks to JT for hosting and resizing all the pics. Eventually they will find their way into the TGO archives This article is the September 1983 Popular Hot Rodding magazine write up of a 3 way shootout between a 1983 Camaro Z-28 H.O., a 1983 Mustang 5.0 and a 1983 Shelby Charger! A very cool write up and a sign of what used to be fast during the early 80s! Too bad they didn't test out the 1983 Corvette too

I can't get over how Chrysler and the magazines tried to slip the mini Charger, or the Daytona, into the same bracket as the Camaro/Mustang. Time has proven that the Chrysler products weren't even in the same ballpark.

I hadn't read this article before, but I've seen several others that did basically the same test. They always seem to come to the same conclusion.

chrysler had no other rear drive cars other than the diplomat and 5th ave. and back in the 80's that was one of chryslers sports cars.

i do agree that the car shouldn't be in the same ballpark but, when comparing cars from all of the big 3 that's all chrysler had to offer. what they should've done was just compare the mustang and camaro.

I have another artical from 1989 that compares the two again, but this time no charger..........they threw in a Ninja. Tho they admited no comparison to the bike. Same result other wize tho a little unfare when its 350 vs 302. At least in this one its 305 vs 302(Just had to say that for the whiny Ford guy and thier "You got 48 more cubes")

Those were some dark days, when a car with the name "Shelby" on it only put out 107 hp. I remember buying a brand new Mazda 626 in 1981. It put out a whopping 67 hp. Sad.

Wow. That is a really cool piece of history. I believe that with the power that sports cars are putting out today, it is a lot like old times.

I would imagine that before long some ridiculous standard is going to come into play. The auto industry will once again have to learn to make power more efficiently. When factory cars are putting out over 600hp from the factory (ZR1) and many common 500+ hp (CTS-V, Z06, Cough* Shelby GT500) cars, the old days are back.

190 HP on the Camaro in the article. Wow, 4 bangers are already there. It's funny that these used to be the quick cars on the street.

15.0 Quarter, Get em'
