HIGHEST mile 3rd gens
Since I just turned over 365K on my 89 IROC a few days ago, was wondering if anyone else has pushed very high miles on their cars.
No once can say I did not drive and enjoy it since buying it new in '89.
So who else has big milage?

Here's a good place to start https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...est-miles.html
Your car looks amazing for having 365K on it. That 305 would have probably died several times over by now if it were owned by your average person. Maintenance is everything! Just turned 90K on my DD '02 WS6 that I bought new, and people still tell me it looks new.

Re: HIGHEST mile 3rd gens
Scott - I was inspired by the thread LOWEST mile 3rd gens, in this same catagory. Both are about miles, as pertains to 3rd gens - so I suspected this would be the place. Sorry if not.

I think this is the perfect place for it!!! What's more "history" than history about driving the hell out of your third gen???
Viking, do you have the link to your original body resto thread? I remember following that when the car had, what 311k on it or so? Looks awesome!

The place is fine for it.
Looking great for the miles! You should go to shows and have a paper or something that says what's in your sig lol.

I like this thread... let's see some high mileage cars that are in original/near-original mint condition.

Re: HIGHEST mile 3rd gens
Mine has about 234,xxx miles now and the engine runs like the day I bought her and I drive her like I stole her. Slideways and full throttle every drive at least once with a shitty grin ear to ear haha!
...of course over the last 13yrs there have been 2 tranny rebuilds, 2 sets of injectors, EVERY single sensor has been replaced at least once, some twice. Redline oil, AutoRX every now and then, lots of water and seafoam down her gullet, tune-ups every year, etc.
Maybe around 300,000 I'll do a compression and leak down test lol.

Geez, I thought 224,000 plus was good for mine. I still have a ways to go. All original motor, rebuilt tranny 13 years ago and the rest is about 95% original. Bought it on 7/28/98 with 83,XXX when I was 15. All my friends were jealous. Not so much now, but whatever. Still drive it today, although not as nice, but it has never let me down. Except when the tranny went out. But even then it was only smoking from leaking pan seal.

Just got back from a shori vacation trip with my 88 RS 2.8 V6 and nearing 158,000 miles. Bought it in 93 or 94 can't remember for sure(sign of age,I guess,69 now).
Bought it for vacation car, have gotten better than 30mpg many times with ac on, and a comfortable ride for long drives, over 800 a day several times on the interstates

Re: HIGHEST mile 3rd gens
There is a '91 RS on the Copart website with 298,353 miles on it in Nashville, TN. I thought the car and the VIN looked awfully familiar so I checked my records and sure enough I photographed this same car back in Feb 1995 with 55,776 miles on it at a local used lot here in Marietta, GA. Car is toast now!!

Looked at a 86 V6/5spd SC this am with 410k miles. Its on its 5th clutch, few starters, alts, and other mic parts, but original engine. The original owner has receipts for everything including oil changes. If I can work a deal, I'll post it up and keep it stock for a DD, just to see how far it'll go. LOL

Re: HIGHEST mile 3rd gens
are those miles done with the original engine? By that I mean original everything or was it rebuilt at one point?I ask because imo once you rebuilt the engine you can't call it the "same" engine.I'd love to see the bearings in that 500k miles engine if that is the original engine.

Re: HIGHEST mile 3rd gens
My 91 RS had 389,500 miles when I drove the RS to Hawk's for the LS swap. The The engine, transmission and rear had no rebuilds no overhauls. Oil pressure was ~35 pounds with Mobile 1 synthetic 5w-30 oil and mobile 1 filter. The RS could still get 30 + mpg highway. I think my RS's 305 TBI engine could have went 500,000 miles. When doing valve cover gaskets at ~365,000 miles the shop was convinced the original engine was a replacement with about 35,000 miles on based on condition of valve train and how clean every thing inside appeared.
I think it's very possible, in fact very likely that TA did 506,000+ miles with no overhauls on the original engine.
