Base model birds

Hey folks, something i am not clear on that maybe someone can help me out with. With late 3rd gen Birds. I see almost all base model Firebirds with the Trans Am ground effects packages. Much like mine. regardless if its a v6 or tbi v8. where there any base model birds that did not come with the effects package? Would they look like a formula?

I know the Formula had a little more of an aggressive styled front bumper. Just curious.

Yep. Base Firebird didn't have GFX. Formula would add the aero-wing, 16" wheels, and bulge hood, along with decals and "firebird" emblem delete. I'd have to break out the catalog to be sure, but basically any upgrade added the gfx.

This gem started as a base Firebird without the "Sport Appearance Package". Crank windows, manual mirrors, etc. Rear defrost and cruise control are about the only options it had.

Re: Base model birds

The vast majority of 91-92 Firebirds have the ground effects. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but most of them were GFX cars.

Re: Base model birds

Not to hijack, but would anyone have numbers for the 82-86 models? I have an 84 TA with GFX. Just wondering if there were a lot of them or not.

Re: Base model birds

Doubt you'll find many numbers for early thirdgens. They predate the electronic database, and no one really kept track. In general, they seem to be pretty evenly split in 84. But then I only notice 84s with GFX since the T/As without usually look like a basic Firebird.

Re: Base model birds

You're reading it wrong. When they say Standard, they mean the default no cost equipment. The TBI V8 would be an Option with a price tag attached.
