Speedometer question...

I found this car for sale on Ebay. It's kind of a twin to my car, but a year newer, and no G92. It has 15k original miles. But it has a 115 mph speedometer. Has 16" wheels, too

1989 IROC-Z convertible, 305 TPI, 5 speed, 3.08 gears, no 4 wheel disc brakes. Has the speedometer been changed??

Re: Speedometer question...

Or, is this a 15" wheel car that someone upgraded to the 16" wheels???

Or is it just legit?? I've just never seen a TPI, 16" wheel IROC-Z with a 115mph speedometer before.

I'm not a Camaro guy but the RPO code QLC tells that it's a 16" rim/tire. So there's that.

The speedo is not RPO code specified, to my understanding, so I can't help with that.

Thanks man! Yeah, I just don't think that speedometer is right for that car. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this

Not to split hairs, but I think the16x8 WHEELS are N96, and the 245/50/16 TIRES are QLC. I know because I was actually JUST looking it up earlier!

Re: Speedometer question...

I think the speedo is correct. Only the L98s came with the 140mph speedos.

No problem and you're correct there are two options - the tire and the wheel. I stated what I did as, normally, 16" tire goes on a 16" rim

Nope, they both did. Usually the 115mph speedometer is found in either RS cars, or any Z28 or IROC-Z that didn't come with speed rated tires (why I was asking about the wheels, the 15" wheels did not have high speed rated tires)

My 89 RS TBI 305 has a 115 mph speedometer

My 88 IROC-Z LB9 TPI has the 145mph speedometer

I believe the gears is part of the equation. Your 1988 has the performance axle while this car does not. Atleast on the Firebird side, that's some factor along with the redline tachometer. Had this been a Firebird, I would expect the 120mph speedo so I would think this car is correct. But I'm not on the Camaro side!

Ok that makes sense. I wasn't really a convertible guy until lately so I guess I never noticed that
