Speedometer Needle
Speedometer Needle
Question for you guys I have a 1982 Camaro with a factory gauge cluster how do you remove the speedometer needle. I am taking the dash apart and looking at what needs to be done to install autometer gauges. What exactly is involved in installing the 5" speedometer, and 5" tachometer which will be installed where gas gauge is, 2 1/16 volt, water, oil. Anyone have any ideas or where I can find them.
Thanks,
Justin

The needle just comes off but why would you want to take off the needle? The whole speedometer is removable, you need to first remove the guage cluster though.
I removed the gas gauge, dash cover, lens, cluster all that is left is the speedo gauge, pulled on the needle and nothing dont want to break it taking it off.
Thanks,
Justin

That's not the proper way of removing the cluster. Here, i just wrote this article for you. http://3gc.net/articles/interior/gauge_Cluster.shtml

1982 - the speedometer is removed from the cluster housing from the REAR. You need to remove the cluster housing (white part) to remove the speedometer assembly. The whole cluster (with all the gauges in it) should come out as one piece if done right, remove the trim panel held on with the torx screws, then remove the two 10mm speed nuts, detach the speedo cable and it just pulls out. Again, lower the column out of the way unless you like wrestling and slinging foul words around.
