plastic panel under the driver side dash......?

i have an 86 iroc 5 speed. my car did not have the plastic panel that goes underneath the dash in between the pedals and the bottom of the dash. i have never seen one in a 5 speed car, only in autos. does anyone know if they had one for the 5 speed or not. i got one for an auto at the junk yard yesterday for 3 bucks and its for an auto. im just going to notch it out for the clutch pedal. just trying to find out if it was an auto only piece or not. thanks guys!

yeah they made them for manuals. I've also been told that if you look at the back of an auto hush pannel that there is a line that shows where you should cut it to compensate for a clutch pedal. I've never checked myself. but that's what I've been told.

Re: plastic panel under the driver side dash......?

wow yeah hes right at least my 82 one has a line cut out spot for the clutch pedal even though its an auto car

i dunno about 85-up but im sure its the same way

should be an obvious line cut out on the panel for the clutch pedal arm

i dont see any good reason that a car would not get an under dash hush panel just because its a 5 speed

good luck

checked my 87 auto TA, it's got the lines to cut out for a manual. just another way they tried to make these cars completely universal for their generation. only make one hush pannel, just cut along the line to make it a manual. lol.

also, my 84 is a 5 speed and it has a hush pannel.

neat

thats what i figured

its good to learn more about these

and just for fun heres my 82 trans am auto trans hush panel

theres a part number on the piece that you cut off the panel for the clutch pedal arm clearance, it is one sequential number lower than the part number on the panel itself

the way i understand it many IROCs were optioned without this under dash plastic. i have never seen any other Camaro or firebird without it, only IROC camaro's. and i have only seen one of those (you can tell because they have metal brackets that hold the courtesy lights)

This topic was, IIRC, thorougly covered in the following link (there doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason for which cars received the panels):
