Rear View won't stay up

Hoping you hot weather guys might have a fix for this. I live in Yuma, and temperatures here inside a car get up to around 140. So as soon as i hit a bump, the glue lets go on the rear view mirror and dangles around by the harness. obviously, this can be a bad thing while driving. I've went through a dozen of the glue kits, letting it cure for days before i put the mirror on. The glass is scrubbed clean before i apply it, and I'm running out of ideas. Even tried the buttons with the sticky foam pad on it.

Any ideas for a high temp solution? I thought gorilla glue, but no idea how to apply pressure to it.

Sweet looking car! I live in Tucson area and i have not had that problem, and it is pretty hot here too. The only thing that will hold is a two part epoxy, the fast drying kind. They will tell you at a good hard ware store like ace what works the best. I just used some gorilla glue on my inside of third brake light. Where the bracket for the screw tightens down the body part broke. Was a bit** holding it for 15 min. and it drys white. it ok for a area that you can't see but not for a mirror.

Re: Rear View won't stay up

go to the parts store,
get the right rear View glue,$3.00, yes it works,(Las Vegas) home town, and it gets hot there to.

read the info on the 2 part glue.

do what the info tells you to.. nothing more! nothing less!!

then hang it..(other words first hang only the metel cleet)first make sure the right side is down!!!

by the way..it's the same stuff GM/ford works with

I have the same problem here in Florida. I have tried all the different mirror adhesives. The Permatex Extreme lasted the longest, about 4 months, before it fell off. I think I will try the fast dry 2 part epoxy in clear if I can find it like camarosrock suggested.

Re: Rear View won't stay up

I live in Phoenix and had the same problem. What finally worked for me was I went to the dealer and got a new GM mirror mount for the glass and the GM glue kit. The parts department was very aware of the problem in Phoenix. They told me no matter what glue I used it would not stay without a new mount. Apparently the old glue on the old mount is impossible to get off all the way and prevents a proper adhesive.

Also, the GM glue kit came with a special applicator that none of the aftermarket kits came with and made applying everything properly a lot easier. Also, make sure to do all this at Night!!! With no direct sunlight on the glue and when it is cooler out. I did mine at 1:00 am when the temp was the coolest. The glue will not set over 90 degrees.

Hope that helps, since I did all this the mirror has been up for 2 years.

Re: Rear View won't stay up

You may be right burnout, I hadn't thought of that. I have tried a couple of different mounts but they all came from the junkyard. I'm sure all the scraping of the old glue off probably hasn't left it perfectly flat. I will try that approach first. Thanks.

Edit: And BTW, 1 of the mirrors I got at the JY wouldn't come off the car. It took part of the windshield coming off. Made me wonder what that was held on with. My mirror didn't have map lights so I got one from the JY that did. Don't remember if it was GM but I'll find out.

Re: Rear View won't stay up

Mine kept falling off so I decided to do away with the glue and made a bracket. I didn't take any pics of the install but you can see the bracket in the image below. It is screwed right to the roof of the car and I screwed the little aluminum piece right to the bracket. I do have a upper console so I don't know how it would work out without one. I also have no headliner installed right now either.
