vacuum pumps

i have looked around the forum trying to find somthing thats even remotely related to this subject but with the shear amount of information and the lack of success with the search im just asking. im not even sure if im in the correct place to ask this. i have a re-occuring issue with the vacuum making it into the passenger compartment and would like to terminate the vacuum line going into the passenger compartment and add a small vacuum pump to run my vent controls. i have been looking for one but i keep finding large ones the run 200+ and ones from ebay for 15 but i dont want a cheap pos thats going to break quickly. i was wondering if anyone has done this and if so how well did it work and where did u get the part

Re: vacuum pumps

No chance of fixing your system? Probably need to look for one from another car. My wifes 1987 Volvo 700 Turbo wagon has a vacuum pump run by an electric motor to make vacuum when the car is under boost. its about 8"X9" and 5" tall and is rubber mounted to a metal shelf to reduce vibration. it's inline with the motor into a vacuum resevoir. I assume it has a 1 way valve in it to "charge' the vacuum tank and provide a source of vacuum. I would think other turbo cars may have something similar. Time to hit up the yards?

Re: vacuum pumps

i was thinking of somthing simmilar but i didnt realy know whare to start looking with random cars. i have replaced the line added new rubber gromets in the fire wall and silliconed the hole in the fire wall but i keep haveing the same problem and im not a fan of not having defrost so i was hoping to find a small quiet pump or reconfigure the system to an electronic system but figured the pump would be the easyest and cheapest

Re: vacuum pumps

Is your car fairly stock? Are you sure the vacuum motors in the dash are good and not leaking, Unless you have a highly modded motor thats not making vacuum, you may be over thinking this.

Re: vacuum pumps

i have a vacuum guage tied in the car because i was wondering if i had proper vacuum i also tested all the motor by directly hooking them up with a new hose from the engine and the tested the switch to makesure that was not leaking and working properly.

Re: vacuum pumps

I really think you gonna swap from one source of vacuum to another> motor to pump. Motor has plenty of vacuum to provide, till you are flooring it.. Looks like fix what you got, see if the stock system has any check valves in it or a reservoir tank in it.

Re: vacuum pumps

Are you sure the vacuum selector switch on the back of your A/C control panel is good, and not leaking?
