hawks thirdgen lists separate carpets for 82-84 and 85-92 is there really a difference? im not 100% but im 99% floor pans didn't change. could you use 85-92 carpet in a 84? is the only difference the available colors?

 

IDK why he did that, but there were quite a few colors discontinued for 85+ (like Charcoal, which I'm still trying to find used in decent shape).

 

Might be a difference in console cut out? That's the only significant interior change in 85.

 

I see Classic lists them the same way.

 

The diffrernce is in the rubber foot pad on the drivers side. The 82-84 had a sort of oval shape while the 85 and up had the grooved pad under the feet and the separate rest for the left foot. The 85 and up looks better IMO. However, floor mats are the way go, so it really doesn't matter.

 

The heel, gas pedal and left foot pads are way different.
They changed because of the interior update in 85.

Cool, never noticed the footpads, learn something new everyday! I'm actually impressed that Acc makes both styles to preserve originality.

 

I think the replacement sets all have the newer style foot pads, though I could be wrong.

I think the pic is generic. I am basing my statement on the fact that I bought carpeting for my 82 TA. I ordered charcoal gray for a 1982-84 F body - from ACC and it has the later heal pad. I have also seen other new carpet in the early third gens the same way. They could have given me the wrong heal pad, but I suspect they just make the later pad.

 

Our picture kind of stinks, it's not the best pic. The carpet you would receive would look just like the original.

 

Tony - it looks like original but what about the heal pad on the driver's side? The carpet I ordered from you had the later design - which is a small heal pad and another small pad on the trans tunnel where your foot would sit as you drive the car. The early design had this all as one piece. Not complaining about it. Just wondering if they make the other design.

 

ACC hasn't made any changes to this, to my knowledge.

 

so wait, whats actually different about the two periods of carpet? i only ask because while my newer black carpet is nice. id really like to make the change to oxblood or one of the other reds.

 

Some colors were only in the earlier years like charcoal. I believe beechwood was only 1989 and later. That and the heal pad change - but I am not sure what year that changed.

Yeah - pretty sure of it. If you want to make sure, try calling them direct. They have a good customer service dept. and will send you samples of the colors you are interested in purchasing. Don't buy direct from them though. It is cheaper to get it from a distributor. 1A sold me my carpet and has great prices.

 

The ACC Catalog Shows 2 Different One's,One For 82-84 The Other For 85-92.

Tony - the samples you guys send out are quite small. ACC sends out a piece that is around 2"x2". Not that big - but a little better then the samples I had gotten from your company.
