Just need to apply a strong adhesive to the material and use a few clamps to hold it together until it dries.

Yes, heat. Some of the older ones, that had a trim line indentation seem to hold up better and do this less...

Mine looked like that on my '88. Found some decent ones at a junkyard for $15.00, and never looked back.
