GTA seat question

Hi guys,

wanted to ask if these are the correct seats for my 1989 Pontiac Trans AM GTA in front and in rear? because front seats have some kind of control in side
and under the seat are wires but there is no wires to connect them.. SO i think they are from other model.

and if there is possibilities to connect them to my car?

Yes, get a oowwp power base from third gen and swap em out, or get a 4th gen and connect the power wire to the one coming out from under the carpet......

If his car didn't already have power seats there won't be the power for him to connect to.

If your car was non-power, you'll have to run a new wire from the accessory circuit for the power seats, it is a heavy wire. its a 10 or 12 gauge wire, would be Orange coming from under the LH kick panel area. This will work the power for the seat tracks, but not the inflatable lumbar or side supports. You need the air tube that comes from the passenger side. It's easier to just buy the harness and hook it all up

Re: GTA seat question

Those seats are out of a 1993-97 Firebird/Formula/Trans Am, as they still have the manually adjustable lower cushion, and a 4th gen style headrest.

What's odd about them is the fact that they don't have the large headrests that were used from 1993-97. I've seen this style of seat in a few 1993-97 cars, but still can't figure out why some got the large headrests, while others got the small headrests that were on all 1998-02 cars.

I gotta agree with you on this. I used to have an 89 GTA and the pictures here don't match what mine used to look like.

I have a 95 T/A now, and my seat bottoms match what is shown in those pictures, but the small headrests confuse me. I have never seem the small headrests before. Interesting!

Re: GTA seat question

The small headrests were used in the early 4th gens. Usually see them on base Firebirds and Formulas, less often on Trans Ams. Either way, they're 4th gen seats. Aside from the headrests they're pretty closely related to the thirdgen Ultima seats.

The Ultima seats and early 4th gen seats both used a manual base mechanism. The power harness is solely for the inflatable lumbar support. The motor assembly is mounted to one seat, an air hose and wiring connects the seats together to supply air to the second seat, and to connect the switches on the second seat to the motor on the primary. The wiring between the car and the seat(s) is simple, GM just used a male/female connector set that plugs in between the dash harness and power window harness, and T's the power out to the seats, along with a ground. The power source is there regardless if the car has crank windows or power windows, it's just a matter of plugging the seat harness into the car.

A lazy person with the pigtails for the seats can wire them up pretty easily without the stock harness, but it's a lot easier if you have the uncut harness.

Still need the air tube that goes between or there's no point with the manual bottoms really

Re: GTA seat question

True, when I cut the pigtails from the donor car (19 years ago) I clipped the hose ends too. :P If I were pulling a set now, I'd cut the carpet and pull the harness in one piece...
