Another LT-1 Swap: DONE!

Well I actually swapped it couple months ago, just kinda tossed it in actually. This time around I went for the gusto. Complete rebuild, LT4 HOT cam w/ 1.6 Roller Rockers, Headman Shorties, a little dress up, and lots of paint. Now I just need a new car to wrap around the sexy engine!

Check out more pics HERE

Looks good, have you put the accessories back on the front of the enginge? Just wondering if the alternator fit with those valve covers...I finally painted the factory LT1 covers and put them on.

Enjoy the new power plant!

Re: Another LT-1 Swap: DONE!

Yea the bottom is bone stock. Upgrades are:
LT4 HOT Cam
1.6 GMPP roller rockers
Headman 1 5/8 prim shorties
ZOOM stage 2 Kevlar Clutch
Tremec 3550 w/ Steeda short-throw

I did get the bracket back on. Had to order a new one seeing as one of the tabs broke off. Anyway. The alternator will clear those with a little bit of grinding with a dremel. there is a small "ear" sticking off the upper part of the casing that has a bolt in it. just grind that down almost flush with the lower part and it slides right on.

I also added over the valve cover wires yesterday. They are pretty sexy :-D.

I will add some more pics after I get it back from the exhaust shop.

Re: Another LT-1 Swap: DONE!

Mine was actually from a 94 Formula I owned. Had a string of bad luck with and ended up having to leave it, basicly in a corn field for 1.5 years. So I gutted that car and put it all in my 3rd gen. Seats, dash, engine, rear end, heck even the muffler :-p. I had a complete donor when I did my swap.

Re: Another LT-1 Swap: DONE!

Thanks for all the praise on my project. It really was a lot of work and fun as heck. I must also say thanks to all on tgo.org for the help, and shbox.com is probably to best place around to get any lt-1 info you might need.

Re: Another LT-1 Swap: DONE!

What computer did you use to go with the Tremec 3550? The standard LT1 M6 computer?

Re: Another LT-1 Swap: DONE!

I used the standard a4 ecu and just disabled the auto tranny control with tunercat. quick and easy. I think the M6 one would work ok but you might have to disable to some safety features like neutral lock out and things.

Re: Another LT-1 Swap: DONE!

Hi ! Do you have any pictures of the gap between your headers and the brake's line on driver side? You don't need something on your header to improved the high temperature beside the brake line? So, its some questions that I have about this swap. I performing the same swap actually. thanks

Re: Another LT-1 Swap: DONE!

Lets see brake line should probably be wrapped but I didn't. I just bent them out of the way.

As for the Alternator what do you mean? The wiring? I went and purchased a new connector from napa for it. The replacement ones have all 3 wires. I just used the field and excite connections.

If you mean the taller valve cover. Just grind down the back of the alt. took all of 5sec with an angle grinder.

Or maybe you mean cause there isn't one in the pic? Yea I hadn't installed the accessory bracket when I took that pic. just engine in place for show lol.

Re: Another LT-1 Swap: DONE!

wiring is more than I could ever cover seeing that all the years of third gens and even the firebird to camaro are different. I used a lot of shoebox's website for the 4th gen stuff and then just searched the web for type specific wiring for the third gen. So far I've had this set up in an 86 and 92 Camaro one was TPI the other was TBI. Right now it is in an 89 Trans Am. All three were different.

The fuel pump will very depending on the year but i recommend just getting a walbro 255lph pump and call it good. For connecting the lines I just purchased fuel injector fuel line and used fuel injector clamps. cut the steel lines with an angle grinder and put them together. Some say it's a bad idea but I've been runnign this setup for about a year and half with no problems.

Re: Another LT-1 Swap: DONE!

Does the 3rd gen clutch, slave cylinder, throwout bearing, etc. work w/ the Tremec 3550?

Re: Another LT-1 Swap: DONE!

Looks nice man. I'm trying to collect parts to get my swap rolling. Only got an engine and a T-56 so far. Hows the setup now? Are ya satisfied with the swap/ performance? So where are the video clips? lol. You should post up some pics of the final setup.

Re: Another LT-1 Swap: DONE!

That engine actually broke number 1 rod in half. Got a crack in the cylinder wall and... well the rest is history. As for performance it was nice. But I built a new motor and put it into a trans am... it was nicer. Went with a CC306 LE1 ported heads and few other addons.

Everything for the transmission is a direct swap with the exception of an adapter plate to mount the tranny to the t5 bellhousing and the crossmember. everything else is out of a third gen.

Do you remember where you purchased the adapter plates or is this something you fabricated?
