Thinking about getting Hawks ls1 headers...

I was just going to use the stock ls1 manifolds and save the money, but my motorcycle was recenlty stolen and i have an insurance check coming my way. So now i'm thinking I'd like to get hawk's headers. This way when i'm ready to start adding upgrades the exaust is already done. On top of that i need to have a custom y pipe made and i'd hate to have it done and then in two years decide i'm ready for the headers and then have to pay for another customer y pipe.

First if i was to get them i don't plan on getting there Y pipe. I'll have a shop make me a Y pipe when the time comes. I planned on doing that anyway for the manifolds. I have a spohn k-member and cross member. The Xmember has the tourque arm attached to it and a drive shaft loop.

If i'm just purchasing the headers what modifications need to be made on the Xmember?

Looking at pictures I'm pretty sure i'd have to cut the drive shaft loop off the Xmember. Can anyone confirm?

The headers don't look like they are coated and they do not look like they are made from stainless steel. Correct? How long would it take for them to start rusting on me?

Thanks!

Thanks!
They are stainless steel. Thus why the company is called Stainless Works that makes them..

Good luck with the exhaust. That spohn setup doesn't play well with others.
A guy in the exhuast section recently posted the best pics of the two playing together I've seen.

I knew they are from stainless works, but the stainless work's website it says they make their exausts out of both "aluminized and 304 stainless steel". I just want to verify that the headers are indeed from stainless.

The set on my GTA were installed in 2005. They are 304 stainless and have held up flawlessly so far.....

Dont thing.....just buy!

The headers are great. The y-pipe might have been fixed by now...havent heard people complaining about it. But you can ask bruce, just give them a call. I love mine!! Still look great after a few years! And the stage 8 locking hardware is a nice addiction in both appearance and function.

Can these be installed without pulling the motor?

They can be installed without removing the motor BUT you will need to have the car on a hoist if possible and may have to remove the bolts on the motor mounts to move things around. The passenger side is tight even with an AC delete box. If you retained the AC it can be even more fun

Re: Thinking about getting Hawks ls1 headers...

Good info.

Can anyone comment on the Spohn Xmember modifications?

I'm pretty sure i'm going have to cut the driver shaft loop off. But i'll have to check ground clearence as maybe i could put a downwards notch and run the exaust through it. On the exaust bourd i saw someone run a y pipe between the drive shaft loop and the tourque arm. But it looks way too tight for my liking.
