96' LT1 VSS
96' LT1 VSS
Ok guys, I hope this is where I would post this question.... I have a 96' LT1 that I swapped into my 72' C10 pick up, I have a 700R4 from a 90' pick up and I need help with the VSS. Ok a little background, I have searched threads, read and talked to a lot of people, I posted this question in my 67-72' chevy forum and they referred me to this site. I believe that I need a 40 pulse per driveshaft sensor and Jaguars That Run (JTR) sells that goes inline with the speedo cable... number 3. I am worried that this wont be the correct signal, does anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks in advance, awesome wealth of info on this forum.

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
Close, it should be in the LSx/LTx sub-forum.
A '90 TH700R-4 should have an electronic speedometer output already.

Re: 96' LT1 VSS
Ok thank you for setting me straight with the placement of this thread. My trouble with the VSS is that I only have the mechanical speedometer output on the transmission, it originally came from a 4WD pick up and I had to change the output shaft and get a tailshaft housing. I also need my stock mechanical speedometer to work still. So I figured that the JTR unit was the solution....
Re: 96' LT1 VSS
Ok thank you, its just expensive and I didnt want to get something that isnt gonna work. I was worried because they say 40 pulse per driveshaft revolution and I dont see how that works with the speedo gears involved, is that taken into account with this setup you think?

Re: 96' LT1 VSS
I got my old 700r4 to make the speedo work by taking out the 700R4 speedo gears and 700R4 vss sensor. Had to take off the tailshaft housing to get them off. Then pound on a 94-97 Camaro VSS 4L60E reluctor(looks like a gear) onto the rear shaft of the tranny. Put on a 4L60E tailshaft housing and install the 4L60E VSS.
To make it work on a cable-driven speedo you would need some kind of electric-to-cable converter which I think Dakota Digital sells.
