Re: Got an LS1 Third Gen? Come on in!
Well the problem is there are a TON of third gens out there and people come in asking the same questions all the time(I'm guilty of). People stop responding because they are tired of posting it over again, but I know it is kind of hard to find what your searching for, mostly because of the search engine on TGO is looking for individual words instead of phrases(which would work much better).
You will just have to find some time to scroll through some of the builds. I didn't see one but has someone already made a post your LS Thirdgen? Might make a decent sticky since these LS and LT swaps are becoming more frequent.

I didn't see one either so I started this one. Maybe I should have titled it "Post your LS thirdgen"! My bad. I've been known to overlook things. Thanks for the input Sir. Keep up the good work on your build. I hope to see it in person one day.

Re: Got an LS1 Third Gen? Come on in!
I have searched and searched and it's hard to find more than two or three LS Thirdgen's with any kind of real details in any one thread, and really, there has got to be a better way. That's why I started this thread. I really thought it would be a good thread.Lots of LS conversions in one spot. I do understand though that people are tired of repeating themselves. If you wanna display your car here go for it, if you don't, no sense in hating. Just move on to the next thread please.

Here's a good place to start, these should keep you busy for a while. They're the more detailed start to finish threads that I can think of off the top of my head (I really appologize to anyone that feels left out if I forgot yours, I made up this list in about 30 seconds!)

Okay, I think we can do something with this.
Back to the basics: Is there any particular issue you are trying to resolve? Or, are you just looking for ideas on what to do with your car?
I've done two, an LS1/T56, and an LS1/4L60E, both from 2000 Camaro donor cars, both went into '82 Berlinettas. They have some similarities in the swaps (long tube headers, air inlet/filter, 3rd gen radiators, not emissions compliant), but a lot of differences beyond the transmissions (fuel system approach, rear ends, PCM mounting location, etc.).
The LS1/4L60E was done last:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...p-17-days.html
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...traighten.html
I actually started a summary thread on the LS1/T56 swap that I tackled first:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...y-ls1-t56.html
And, as the thread title states, some rambling thoughts about LSx engines:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ltx-...about-lsx.html

Re: Got an LS1 Third Gen? Come on in!
five7kid,
Mainly ideas. There's no specific issue. Like stated in a previous post my mechanic is great and works at Cincy Speed. He specializes in LS1 and Lt1's and has done enough of these swaps where I can ask him a question specific to the swap and he not only knows the answer but why and what the results would be by going other routes or with other parts. I could just ask him a million questions per day but he does have a full time job and works at least 12 hours a day. What I prefer to do is my research first and then see if he agrees with whichever way I'm leaning on something. I believe that if any real issues come up they will be equipped to handle it. It's more a matter of what do I want. I know that as the GTA progresses decisions will have to be made and I'm the type who doesn't want to backtrack later. So whether it's color, gear, exhaust setup, interior, whether or not to remove the bump strip, or which bolt-ons to go with, I would like to have a collection of these to look over and compare/contrast what others have done.
What I've noticed so far is, generally, when someone like Pocket does something, he does it right. It gives me a little more confidence knowing too that he has tried different approaches to things and not only does he know what works best, but why.
He has failed enough times to know how to succeed and that's plain to see after reading his threads. I'm thankful for those who contribute and help out. BlueZee28 is another one.
If there is one huge thing that I am stuck on it's color. I think my mind is made up but it's hard to find GTA's in colors other than red, white, black and gunmetal! I don't want to get too far away from gunmetal but want my car to be different than most. It's also impossible for me to imagine a color on my car. I have to see it. Cyber gray looks wicked on z28fast1 but I can not visualize it on mine. So, pictures help. I found this picture and love it, but would do something to change it a little to be different and to not steal this guy's exact color. I'm thinkin maybe a tad darker with some special flake in it.
Anyway, this thread has already become very educational and inspirational. You people have some wonderfully done cars and I truly do appreciate everyone's help.

Short block is back from machine shop. Heads and cam are ready to go on. Body is almost ready for paint. Still need a lot. Won't be done before late spring or early summer. Oh, and will not be retaining the A/C. That's what t/tops are for.

Progress (or lack thereof) report...
Tracey is getting the engine together. I will be looking for a Fast 90 very soon and ordering the trans and converter. Body work pretty much stalled out over the winter because my poor wife is having a terrible time with this pregnancy. Plus it's cold in the garage and low funds aren't conducive to alot of work getting done either. The car is going to stay Gunmetal Gray. Thanks again all who have contributed.

Tracey Scott i presume by looking at your location? Ive dealt with tracey a few times if so. Good dude.
Ive done 3 lsx swaps myself and a lt1 swap. All install and wiring and fuel system. Ive done the pcm tuning on all 3 lsx cars, and wouldve done the lt1 if i had appropriate software. Theyve all varied from autos to manuals, to single plane heads cam 6L in my brothers 88 mustang. We built the harness for it. If you have any questions dont hesitate to ask. I will be more than happy to give you my opinion.
Good luck!

Re: Got an LS1 Third Gen? Come on in!
Progress report: sorry about the long delay but I've been up to my neck in bedbugs and termites. Car is mostly in primer, door hinges fixed, winshield replaced, short block and heads assembled, all major and most minor remaining parts ordered. Tracey should have her very very soon and get to start the swap. He is very busy at Cincy speed and expects to be done with the GTA in no less than 2 months. Some things are worth the wait! Dad and I decided on BMW's dark silver metallic for the color. We also are going to maintain the A/C and cruise as Tracey has a nice Kmember he will let go for a great price. Pics are coming as soon as there's something worth seeing.

Re: Got an LS1 Third Gen? Come on in!
Telling me I'm lazy and use the search button seems like quite the lazy reply to my request and this is why. I have searched and searched and find it difficult to find many of them. Plenty of avatars with LS1 listed under engine but not much more in most cases.
Some genius decides to start a sticky on "list your LS1 conversion here" and only asks that people list 3 details about their car (yes I added my car to it). Pics? Aww who needs em?! Mods? Aww who needs em. Videos? You guessed it. If it wasn't for some people's desire to list some of these things in their SIGNATURES there would be far less even. (Thanks all who take the time to do so!)
So call me lazy or whatever you want but the way I see it I was trying to do what should have already been done in a stickie anyway! A showcase on LS1 Thirdgen's. In the LT1/LS1 conversion section at that. Who'da thunk it? It's funny how Pocket has this hot thread (it really is a cool thread too Pocket. Thank You for not being LAZY and sharing with everyone here that is a NEWBIE to what you are doing.) about him engineering a home-spun blower setup and everybody wants to comment.
Consider your chances of finding that with a search though! Personally I don't see me, by chance, typing the word "unsupervised" into the search box.
It seems to me that the problem with a few on here is not that they are tired of newbies asking the same question for the millionth time; it's either that they have forgotten that at one time THEY were the one's who didn't know something, they were the ones who had a desire to look at a car other than their own, and they maybe used to answer questions repeatedly just to help someone else out. Not for some kind of title, reward or respect, but because they were considerate.
If you don't want to go thru the 'trouble' of helping to feed what should be a desirable thread, fine, DON'T. But I don't see the point of putting a big neon sign on your forehead that reads "I'm lazy and only care about what I like" while pointing the finger at me.
This is what I get for asking people to show their LS1 Thirdgen's in and organized, detailed and VERY EASY TO FIND fashion.
Yes, I guess that makes ME lazy. Keep up the good work there moderator. Now I know why that "other site" will remain my favorite.
The shame is, that considering this site's name and the undeniable wisdom that comes with putting an LS into one, you should love having a show-off thread for the combo. Call me crazy.

If you're open minded, then let me give you my perspective.
Most of the LSx swaps are NOT LS1s. We're mostly using LQ4s and LM7s instead, because they're cheaper, and easier to get.
Maybe it is neat that everyone on LS1Tech.com does dyno numbers, elapsed times and videos. Maybe it's neat if they sticky the showcase threads.
But most of those guys are in their 20s or 30s, most of us are teens, or older than the LS1Tech crowd.
They're into the technology, we struggle with it. Either we're too old to want to learn i, or we're teens who can't afford cars and engines and video recording devices. They invest much more $ into their toys. We're on budgets.
This is a different "scene".
You obviously like theirs, fine. But wanting our dragstrip results and our elapsed times, umm...why?
Our cars are close in weight to theirs, and use the same rear suspensions. Out track times will be close, build for build. And we use the same drivetrains, so our RWHP numbers will be the same, build for build.
You may not have the time, per week, but ultimately you can just read everyone's threads, and follow along with the ones that interest you.
If you notice my thread, I asked for elapsed times, but only after much lurking here and on LS1Tech.com, because noone on LS1Tech bothers with the 5.3s that are slightly more common here. I didn't get upset that noone answered. I just tried something else.
Shall we chastize you for not building your car, but paying to have it built instead? What do we gain by you telling us what you're having done? What do you gain, asking for our results, when your own build is already decided?
This scene is not about the numbers or the video. We're about how to build it cheap, functional, reliable, and worthwhile. If it feels good and doesn't leave us stranded, mission accomplished. If there's a problem, these guys will help with diagnosing the problem.
I can't offer much, but I am showing and describing the issues I'm running into, that I haven't seen in the other threads here, and I'm showing and documenting my solutions.
And it's not like I have to share what I do, I'm not getting paid for it. I do it because it feels good to help whomever I can. If I have a problem, then maybe my posting about it can either prevent someone else from having it, or help them find their way through it.
This isn't about glory, as much as the LS1Tech crowd seems to feel otherwise.
You can't expect vids if we can't post them. Some of us don't know how. Some of us can't afford it, and you didn't offer to help change that. And some of us just don't care about vids.

Re: Got an LS1 Third Gen? Come on in!
I must have named my thread wrong, because someone else starts the same thread and includes Lt swaps and everyone applauds him. I will agree though, good idea Sir.
Anyway for those who are interested here are a few pics. Progress is slow due to time limitations.

Thanks for trying but I'm not wanting camaro seats. I should have specified Trans am leather seats, if I didn't. Also, the lower air dam from a camaro and trans am are different so yours won't work for me.

Things are happening much faster now. I had to wind up getting spohn's A arms to go with the k-member due to clearance issues.

Getting close enough to taste it, eh?
I'm considering front coil-overs for the LS1/T56 car. It seems to need more suspension attention than the LS1/4L60E car.

First.. Love the stance of this car.. the color and rims.. Excellent Job!

Second... People should just put posts of their build threads and be proud of the swap.. less complaning about taking 5min to post your thread for some help... if you don't want to post it's a click away to pass.
I'm currently changing my complete setup from a Buick V6 to a 427LSX RHS Block PT98 Turbo and back to stock style susp. in rear.
Car was running 10.30's @133mph with the V6
This setup should put me deep in the 8s with good street manors.
I'll be putting up a build thread around Christmas time.
Good luck with your family and build.. you have quite a hand full on both!

Thanks UR50SLO. What a sweet car you have there. Really nice custom work under the hood and WOW is it fast! So cool that you stepped away from the 'norm' to do it.

Re: Got an LS1 Third Gen? Come on in!
Thanks....It was a fun daily driver in the summer and ran low 10's. DVD player.. subwoofer full interior and never been on race gas. Just plain old 93pump gas. Not bad but not enough either Lol.
I'll be starting over from scratch almost. Nothing I had in the engine bay will work with the new engine.
Intercooler is too small now... radiator is too small.. 5" downpipe however is right Lol. But will have to be cut up and all re-done. Mid and front plate for the motor now.. I'm thinking about staying TH400 but not 100% decided yet. Rossler says I could break the converter at the new power level. Somthing I don't want to happen on DragWeek.
It will stay very clean with the new build for sure... Just much more work all over again.
But I have to change everything to be competitive in the SmallBlock Power Adder class.
Dropping 2seconds isn't easy!
