88 Base Coupe Build
I picked this car up cheap last fall as a project. I had thought about selling it but i have since sold my iroc and i refuse to be camaro-less so I've started on this. The car has 60k original miles and had a 350 swapped in that spun a bearing. I paid $700 for the car and a pile of spare parts. It has a very nice interior except for the headliner and when I looked under the car I noticed it had been rhinolined.

Around september of 2011 I pulled the motor and put the car in the garage on jack stands. Now that I could finally climb under the car I noticed it had a small rust spot coming through the bedliner on the driver side floor pan.
about a week ago I climbed under it again and began poking at the hole... which began to get bigger. I figured I would pull up the carpet on the driver side and weld in a patch temporarily. When I pulled up the carpet this is what I found. Apparently the rhinoliner was an attempt to cover holes and make the car pass inspection rather than an attempt to protect the floors as i had assumed.

I figured that I would rather be safe than sorry so I elected to pull out the whole interior and carpet and this i what i see

as well as this hack job of a fuel pump change

So today I sand blasted my whole floor and this is the final result
front passenger floor pan

rear passenger floor pan

so now this is how the car sets. Luckily the whole back half of the car is completely solid and it only needs floor pans, a headliner, t-top seals and paint.

Im guessing the car wasnt exposed to a rust-inducing environment so much as it sat in the elements with leaky t-tops. I will probably never get a T-Top car without checking the floors pretty closely.
But this is a relatively good thing, just means the rust is limited to the floorpans due to water sitting in the interior... but I'd still check rael close at all the other rust-prone areas and make sure it's worth doing the floorpans on it.

Im still torn on weather or not Im going to do full pans or just patches. The car is only a base coupe and as such will never really be collectible. Also pans are about $250 each and I could patch it for about $100. And that is patching it right, cutting out all of the rotted spots, welding in patches and grinding flush.

Re: 88 Base Coupe Build
I figured id update. I got somewhat distracted from doing my floors when I found out my rear end was very sloppy so I decided to do a disk posi swap with the rear end i had originally intended to put in my iroc before I sold it. My garage is very messy, parts from this car are scattered everywhere.

Hopefully ordering new Lakewood 50/50 drag shocks, new springs and new sway bar links from summit soon so i can finish the swap. Currently just in place with the old parts so it can be moved.
