Very nice. As a kid in the '60s I loved Speed Racer but I would not have put the image on my car. Otherwise gorgeous Iroc.

Beautiful car,

Someone put a lot of work in it.

Many , many times the builder becomes attached to the car. ( like me )

I wonder why they would sell it ?

Re: 89 IROC Mach 5

I don't know the whole story but he built car for his kid, when ex wife saw no air bag, said get it out of here.

My brother knew the guy and of the car; I was back east for the holidays and bought it.

That's all I know. Obviously more to the story.

I'm glade you bought it, and someone that will take care of it, and knows something about respecting its "power" with out having to learn it the hard way.

Very nice Car! Not a fan of cowl hoods on third generation camaros but it looks like a very well done build. Im sure the motor wouldn't have fit under the stock hood.

Yeah not a huge fan of cowl either.

First step is to get through Emissions.

I bought a IROC hood and one WISH is to try and make it fit.

Very glad I did too.

I'm a geezer but needed a garage mate, and something to mod, rather than my stock elcamino.

Look forward to learning and sharing.

Thanks

Welcome to TGO! You have a very nice looking Camaro. I'm curious as to the HP of your 383. Looking at your pics, what would you think about black headlight buckets? Is that a '68 or '69 El camino? Beautiful car also.

No idea on the horsepower. figure about 15% less here at 5500 feet.

For now, happy with the look of the front end.

its a 69 El Camino. 49,xxx original miles. A CO car, completely rust free.

Re: 89 IROC-Z Mach 5

Prior owner had some money in that car, that much is certain. I think the story of someone building it for a family member and then selling it because it didn't have an airbag isn't true. There's too much money in that car. What you have now is worth more than a run-of-the-mill Camaro, you should heavily consider having it appraised and insured for that amount.

Re: 89 IROC-Z Mach 5

It's well insured with Hagerty, thanks for the advice.

As far as the story that's all I know, and irrelevant any more. And yes. Lots of money was spent.

However I may have to sale it, having trouble with emmisions. I was told, it passed in Jersey last year and there is a sticker in the window as such. But it doesn't have one thing including any of the stickers. I can add some SS high flow cats and a few other simple things but if they want AIR stuff plus all kinds of other stuff it needs to go where emissions don't exist like FLA.

Feel free to make a reasonable offer.

Many of the states have the common rule that once a car is at least 25 years old they stop testing it for emissions. Heck even Chicago has that rule (sorry California). Look into that rule for Colorado. There could be the option if Colorado has a classic car plate. States vary by how much mileage you can use them per year, some states do but never check your odometer. I have heard of a guy buying a spare gauge cluster, it's physically impossible to add miles to a guage cluster if it's not hooked up.

Thanks have explored all that.

32 years old here in CO for a classic BUT IF it's newer than 75, still needs E test.

That's a bad deal such a nice IROC, here in GA 25 years and you're out of emissions. That is why I am in no big hurry with the LQ9 install in my 92 Z28. By the time I plan to be done with her emissions will not matter.

I would still give the state Headquarters a call and talk with a supervisor about your options. The websites I visited make it sound like you probably would not pass a routine inspection, ie you have no emissions equipment, but you may still have some option they don't readily advertise.

I have an appt with the state Wednesday. They will provide a full report. It's free and it's separate from the ETest place. 3 places told me to proceed this way so here go nothing. I will report back.

Re: 89 IROC-Z Mach 5

ok results of inspection not good.

Observations:
Electronic engine controls and Throttle Body fuel injection have been removed. A 4BBL non feedback carb has been installed. The catalytic converter(s) are not installed. All feedback controls including o2 are not installed.

Comments:
A throttle body fuel injection system and electronic engine controls must be installed and operating to pass visual emissions inspection. This includes a single catalyst for single exhaust or 2 catalysts for dual exhaust, oxygen sensor, secondary pump type air injection system with down and upstream injection system and controls, and an operating engine control system.

with that, offers are being accepted.

yeah, i was told.....everything is there but the cats.

and it had a current NJ inspection so I ASSUMED it wouldnt be too much trouble.

my own bad.......not enough DUE DILLIGENCE might cost me.

well now for some really good pictures and a FOR SALE.........just needs to go where they dont care about emissions like FLA.

It doesn't surprise me with the political climate we have. I'm glad I live in a state where older cars are exempt from emissions testing. I feel bad for you.

Re: 89 IROC-Z Mach 5

yeah its f'ed up how they are sprinkled about.

e-test only done in the 7 counties around denver, the rest of the state is exempt.

then you have some states like FLA that every vehicle is exempt.

makes no sense.

snd they sre on to you if you try and register out of your county...as soon as you get pulled over, you finished.

if all i had to do was pass the sniffer I bet some hi-flow OBDI cats would get me through.

its all the visual check that makes it near impossible.

Throw it up on eBay and the national sites for selling cars. You'll probably make most of it back.
