Power Tour Tonite

I went and saw some clean thirdgens. I got off work late and wasn't able to clean up the ride. So you know the story. Parked across the street hoping noone would see the dirt. i did get it cleaned up at the wash about 8:00 and cruized for about a half hour. Saw flirtin1's car goin down the street the wrong way for me to follow.

Well if I didn't talk to ya I will see ya this weekend at the Des Moines show. Let's get the caravan started. I'm goin and Matt is gettin' out the 83' TA out for the show too. We can join up at exit 295 on I-80.

It was awesome i can tell you that!! All of us did burnouts in the street as we were leaving. I even got a guy with a mustang shirt say "I now have more respect for camaros." I was in the red 89 RS with the faded paint!! It still does a hell of a burnout!!

It was a neat show down there, but not alot of cars that really make you stop and say wow. Came home with a empty camera because of the fact. Total disorganization on either the fairground or power tour prganizers for the Davenport stop. Was supposed to be same day registration for each stop...but davenport did'nt have it because they were afraid they were going to overflow the fairground with just long haulers. So the guys that trailered/drove down there for the day were only able to get a spot across the street and that's as close as you'd come to the fairground.

The only vehicles imo that had anything special were the manufactuer cars. The guys that had the big money to go all out with everything. Most all of the other cars were just typical drivers which I know this tour is about, I just had this vision of all show quality cars for some reason.

The dyno tent was a farce, the only thing impressive there was the fact all these "hot rods" got smoked by a 4x4 chevy pickup!!! The guy taking the money for the dyno was kind of upset since they were'nt letting outside cars in so thier income from the Davenport stop was a joke. Last tiime I counted he had all of 7 cars that ran-not good for business. I'm sure more ran after 7pm when we left but I know there was'nt a wait to use it.

Was worth the trip, just not what I expected is all. Almost like any other car show that you go to around your area just more cars.

I agree that the fair grounds setup sucked, after driving in the rain all morning the people that didn't go straight to the hotels and tried to clean their car before they got to the venue were forced to drive down a dirt road at a back entrance. Then if you hadn't started in Texas you had to park in the semi gravel spectator lot and when we got back to the car after eating there were gravel chunks sitting on the paint of the hatch deck

Talking to some of the venders they forced them to drive their cars in that way also and they wern't happy! I doubt that Hot Rod will ever consider the fair grounds again for anything and thats a shame!

Also most of the cars that followed the "offical route" didn't get there until between 5 and 6

LOL, just another way for ole IA to get overlooked again for future venues.

I was really surprised by the lack of 3rd gens, namely firebirds. There were a ton of 4th gen stuff and quite a few 3rd gen camaros, but I think I only counted like 5 or 6 trans-am/firebird's? What's up with that, lol?!!

Everybody wants a camaro I guess I do know now I was thinking along the lines of a 69 camaro build up but after the later car shows of '03 I attended and the few so far in '04 I've been too, these 67-69 marao's are literally becoming a dime a dozen. Every where you looked there they were. Not saying there's anything wrong with them, but jeez they're taking over the tracks and car shows so imo they dont have that wow factor they did like 10-15 years ago when every other guy did'nt have one. Even the 66-70 chevelles are starting to get thick like this. Maybe that's why it takes something outrageous to get my attention since it's basically the same car over and over just different paint or lack there of, lol.

Need to find a good ole Gremlin to build I guess

Agree. Agree. Agree.

It really made me wonder why I spent all the time and $$ on my car when I could have bought a late model Z28, put some wheels on it and call it a long hauler. The only car I really liked was the twin turbo 69 Camaro. The parking was terrible, and the whole thing was a big cluster-poor signage, and the rent a cops were not too helpful. I was surprised at the average age of the Tour...OLD! Guess they have all the free time. I doubt they come back to IA anytime soon, and there are much better choices than Davenport. I still want to run it next year...now where are those dang windshield wipers....?

We did ok getting to Davenport. We were about 6 cars behind the Hot Rod lead vehicle & got there around 3:00. We were right behind the Hot Rod project Air Hog Mach I for a while that day.

It was the Springfield-to-St. Louis leg of the tour that held us up. Due to many stops (a couple temperature-gauge related) we rolled into Gateway at 8:05pm when everyone was leaving.

Sorry I missed you the entire tour, I really wanted to see your car. Congrats on getting the newspaper coverage and the pics on Hot Rod's website.

I ended up getting a towtruck ride home. On the way to Green Bay, my throttle stuck wide open and I re-arranged the front end- putting the radiator into the fan. The only good part is that it happened 15 miles from home and not in Southern Missouri.

I have a power tour page on my Caprice's CarDomain site (but it's all pics of my car):
HERE. See if you remember my car from the tour. You can also check out the carnage.

Ya, I saw when you posted the wreck pics, just made me cringe but I figured you had enough on your mind so I didn't reply
sorry for the bad luck.
I was lookin for you also but didn't see ya!
Just got my new muffler on yesterday, had a gremlin jump out of it somewhere between Subula and Byron (suppose all the burnouts for the kids didn't help) but after driving the rest of the way to Arlington with the rain, fogged up windows, noise and fumes we decided to go home and not to Green Bay.......from the looks of the Hot Rod board we didn't miss anything but problems in Green Bay!!!!
Let me know what shows/cruises you are doing the rest of the summer we don't have anything big planned probably Streator and Jacksonville but maybe we will run into you somewhere
