its basically the same things as putting studs in except doing it this way u can lock the bolt and nut together so it wont loosen and they are very east to remove just loosen the nut and use an allen socket or wrench to uncrew the whole thing out

btw if u use stainless bolts/nuts make sure u put grphite lube or antisieze on them before u put them in
i don't know if I would have enough room to get a nut on some of the bolts. The bolts i'm using are already only a 3/4" shank.

Re: Ohio?

Well, so much for that. The rear I got for my GTA is junk and makes 3 times more noise than the one I was replacing. Now I have to yank it, take it 2 hours back to where I got it, and then start hunting for another one. No summer for me I guess.

Re: Ohio?

That sucks man. Do you think you will have it ready in time for the nationals? If you were closer to Columbus I would suggest looking at pick n pull. It's a junk yard on he southeast side. I saw a mid 80's iroc in there last week with a 9 bolt still intact. There were also a couple 10 bolt v8 drum rear ends at u part it. Good luck.

Thanks man, just depends how long it takes to find another one I can afford, which I'm not counting on happening quickly. I'm looking for a 98-02 with 3.42/posi/disc.

Re: Ohio?

Thanks alot guys. 3.73's are too steep for me, as I want to maintain at least 20 MPG. I found a diff in reynoldsburg for $80 out of a 2000 SS. He has opened it up and checked it all out, and it is good to go. I have my friends who run columbusracing.com looking into him, making sure is all good.

I run 3.70's in my 9 bolt. They really aren't that bad for gas. I think i'm right around 2800-2900 rpm in OD at 80 mph. I was just about to send you a pm and ask if you got the rear end in. I guess this answers my question. I'll keep an eye out up this way and see if I can find something.

I like my short experience with the 3.42's though, it seemed just right to me. Anything more, and it just wouldn't feel right to me I don't think.
I went and took back the POS rearend to barberton today and got my 240 bucks back, then went down to reynoldsburg to visit some friends and pick up a rear diff from a 2000 SS that looks 3X's better then the one I had to take back. I'll run brake lines on it tomorrow and hopefully get it in. Got it for $80 bucks.

Pretty confident in it. The guy went over it with me and had the cover off, he seemed like a pretty smart and straight dude. Also had my buddy check it out and he said everything looks good on it.

Re: Ohio?

The diff is nice looking, better than my stock one or the bad one I got. My buddy lives like 2 miles from where I picked it up in Reynoldsburg, he looked it over with the cover off and said all looks good to him too. I ran brake lines on it, put the cover and swaybar on it, and it is in the car ready to go. Just have to bleed the brakes, fill the diff, and slap the wheels on.

While I was out there, I saw about 4 3rd gen camaros and also saw a white 87-90 GTA sitting in a driveway that was nice looking.

Re: Ohio?

The diff is working nicely, I am back on the road it would seem. I made a quick HD video of it in action. At the :20 mark I got a scare when the car decided to toss me towards the guardrail rather suddenly lol, but I'll blame that on the damp road as it had just rained about 45 minutes before. And as if to say "good job" from those in charge, the picture shows what happened right after I finished the car and dropped it on it's tires.

Re: Ohio?

Looking at this video you seem to be running 0-60 in about 6 seconds. I timed it. Not shabby at all. I am doing abt 6.5 stock though.

Love the sound

Re: Ohio?

Thanks man.
Actually, last time I logged it I was running 5.6 seconds 0-60 and that was with some spark knock and not even trying on the launch, and with my stock 3.23 diff. I should be on the low side of 5's now IF I can get it to hook up.

Re: Ohio?

Just got back from Baltimore Md. and I took the GTA. Had a great trip out getting 21 MPG doing in excess of 75-80 most of the time. Got to run with quite a few things, including a new Camaro SS convertible (door to door baby ). Also had a 6.0 GTO give me a nod and we ran together through some traffic for a few minutes, just having fun. Then, while in Annapolis to see a friend, I took her for a ride in it. She told me, "you know my dad had a 70 LT1 Vette, right?". This of course egged me on to show her what I had, so I lined up on a quiet road and launched it hard, and just as I hit second and caught good traction, I look over and see a dude hating on me on the sidewalk wearing a helmet, driving a red scooter, and flicking me off lmao. We laughed our asses off, and she loved the car.
Also went to a Sonic one night, and pretty sure I got revved at by every performance thing there, from a new Hemi Charger to a Ford diesel with huge stacks up through the bed lol. I gave it back as I left though and it turned into a revfest for a minute lol.
It was quite a weekend, I had a friggin blast.

But anyway, point is all I need is to save up some funds for this 4.15 a gallon gas and I'm down for a meet because the car is good to go, if anybody wants to.

Re: Ohio?

Not sure how much more I'll get out this year, but give me until the Spring so I can get a motor swapped in

Would love to see more Third gens at Norwalk though, there's maybe 3 or 4 there consistently, myself and Mark included.

Hopefully next year I'm running 12s, then my Formula will be somewhat impressive, being TPI and all

LMAO, I am in Toronto, OHIO. I will be out your way again sooner or later and we can cruise. I was out in Reynoldsburg when I picked up this diff, but it was evening and I didn't have much time after getting the diff and hanging out with some friends that happened to live a few blocks away from where I got it.

Re: Ohio?

So what is everyone doing this weekend? The weather report looks really nice for Sunday, so I'm down for hanging out and having some beers or whatever. Hopefully my car behaves, because I had a little issue today. Stopped to grab some oil, and after putting a half quart in it, it refused to crank over. The starter did nothing, like a neutral safety switch issue or something. Finally after a little bit of looking around and fiddling, it just started right up and was fine the rest of the day. :/ I have no idea what the issue was.

I have just tucked her away for the year. The reason is my tags expire at the end of this month and in January I am eligible for Historic plates so I wont put it on the road till then - which I wont till spring. They cost 11.50 and I will never have to renew again! I used to have them on my 1957 chevy I owned years ago. I now can keep "BAD GTA" forever at no cost. no one can ever had that plate again and my historics will keep it.

also an update on the car: I had the headliner redone by a company in Columbus. since I had T-tops and I need it perfect for shows I was very picky. I had them done by J&J
http://www.jandjautoupholstery.com/home.nxg
they did a great job!!! it looks new. now I can touch my headliner without making dents!!! and he did my t-top shades too!

Re: Ohio?

Yeah, I'd like to come race or do something Saturday, but it's not worth dealing with if it's threatening to rain. I don't take my car out in weather, and the forcast from here to norwalk, all the way to friggin Baltimore,md. is calling for rain Sat.. I will probably head up to Akron tomorrow towards the evening, if anyone wants to get together tomorrow up there.

I'm there if it doesn't rain. Too bad i don't have time to put on the DR's and adjust my control arms. I think my car should still put down a pretty good time.

Re: Ohio?

Haha, sounds like fun Mark.
Azrael, munson, and myself are all going to hit the track Friday, after a meet up to chop off my AIR pump that has been hanging on my engine for 2 years now, doing nothing lol (stupid stripping torx bolts). Anybody else want to come out for some racing?

Re: Ohio?

I'm sure we'll get the air pump off. I might try pulling my intake off this week and resealing it, or atleast try to tighten it down more. I'm going to move my LCA's down one hole, and then I have to decide on running the DR's or not. Had a good time hanging out with you guys last night. Man did I have one hell of a hang over this morning!

Cant believe this but the timing towers got messed up from a lightning strike last night.

I'd believe it, that lightning and wind woke me up at like 5 this morning. Sounded pretty nasty.
We are planning on going to quaker city, but I might see if everyone wants to go to 42 instead. I like 42 because it's a fast track, plus matt said quaker city is an uphill, and it's also higher altitude than 42.

Re: Ohio?

This Friday is out for me, but maybe next Friday I will. Never been to 42, although I've heard mixed feelings about it. Also since my car is slow I might not lol. If anyone is bored on Wednesdays, come out to Norwalk! I'm there every Wednesday, $7 to race.

Of course, I am a little biased towards Norwalk since I live 5 minutes away, and I get in free cause I work there but they don't have any more Friday's until October 5th/12th.

On a side note, just bought a set of 083 heads off craigslist, so I have nearly all the parts needed for my 350 swap. Aiming for high 12s next year, then I'll meet up with you guys a lot more

Re: Ohio?

42 is a decent track. I just didnt like it because going 100mph on that track and having limited ground clearence sux and you guys know the 1/8 bump im talking about..lmao.

Heres what im looking at here to fix my car. Just to make it easy and have a fresh engine that is solid.

http://sandusky.craigslist.org/pts/3209153273.html

Put my cam, ported heads and top end on it with a tune and were talking 190hp or so and 220tw or so without the turbo.. Thats good so you can imagine what it could do with a turbo.

Although 700 bucks is a little pricey, im sure I can off that 200R4 to someone wanting one along with all the other crap on it as all I need is the short block.

That engine above literly cost 2200 bucks a few years back when the seller bought it.... 45k miles on it now so i dont wana low ball him too too much..lol

Heres some of the info. Its not bad as a stock engine.. but we all know IF i would get it...it would be far from it...

With 160 horsepower and 194 Ft. Lbs. of torque your truck will feel better than new, and tow better than ever. The heads have large 1.72" intake and 1.42" exhaust valves and combustion chambers that yield a healthy 9 to 1 compression ratio. The camshaft is a high lift, short duration design, developed to produce lots of strong low end torque and mid range horsepower.
With .427" intake and .454" exhaust lift, the cam ensures a strong pull to 5000 RPM. Doesn't sound like your 2.8 V6 at all, does it? It isn't, when GM Performance Parts develops an engine we focus on making power. But not power for the sake of power, but power where you need it. For great drivability, towing performance and maybe a little off road fun.

The bigger 3.4L V-6 is virtually a bolt in for the above applications, utilizing the existing intake manifold, ignition system, emission system, and water pump from the original 2.8L engine. Some models may also require using the oil pan or front cover from the original engine. The 1982 - 83 models with manual transmission use a clutch cross shaft with a ball stud on the block. This new 3.4L does not have that clutch boss cast on the block.

The 3.4L engine conversion package offers a considerable improvement in horsepower and torque over the 2.8L engine in an economical bolt in package. This engine package includes the engine assembly, comprehensive installation instructions and decals.

Specifications:
Horespower-160 @ 5000 RPM
Torque- 194 @2700 RPM
Compression Ratio- 9.0:1
Internal Components:
Block- Cast Iron 3.4L Block , Rear Wheel Drive Applications Only 3.62" Bore Size
Crankshaft- Part # 10146889 Nodular Iron, 3.31" Stroke
Connecting Rods- Part # 10192567
Pistons- Part # 10146858 Cast
Camshaft-Part # 12363230 Flat Tappet Hydraulic Camshaft.
Intake Lift- .427" Intake Duration @ .050" 204
Exhaust lift- .454" Exhaust Duration @ .050" 216
Lobe Centerline-107
Rocker Arms- part # 14002446 Stamped Steel
Cylinder heads-Part # 14054884 Cast iron , 60 V6 performance Head , Originally used on the Citation X11 2.8 H.O. Engine 1.72" Intake, 1.42" Exhaust

I have to laugh...It says preformance heads???? Get the helll outta here man, theres no such thing as a iron headed preformance head... Its called get alluminum ones..

I would personally rather go to quaker then 42. The track might be a little uphill but it's alot nicer surface then 42. And it's only half the distance to drive to.

I switched my LCA's down one bolt hole earlier. The car definitely gets better traction then it did before. There is still a decent amount of tire spin, but there is alot more forward movement from the car. Now I just have to pull the intake this week and get it back together by friday.
