I drove my car today. Finally a nice enough day with no salt on the roads. It was great to finally drive it, it's been sitting since november.

Re: Ohio?
I would drive mine more, but the roads are always covered with salt around here because i'm on the edge of the snow belt. Well that and the plates have been expired since the beginning of november. I've still drove it probably a dozen times on the bad plates.

Well hoping to toss the trans in tommorow. Updated the servo to a vette one, along with a larger boost valve (.500) and a better itermediate valve. Thanks Pro built. trans!

I'm eager for the season to start too...probably not a good thing though, considering my car only has a rear end housing at the moment. No motor or trans in yet, and it's only one month until the track opens up

You got plenty of time bud. No worries. Its the tuning that I guarentee your going to have to set some time aside to. Thats the most important part to keeping a engine in one piece.
Im racing in 20 days. 3 weeks from yesterday. Excited isnt even a part of how I feel at this point.

Re: Ohio?
Update on the tranny. Car is a monster now. Amazing the difference in this 700r4. Feels like a complete new monster now. Great positive shifts, throws you in the seat when shifts, no flaring, less time between shifts. And the best thing of all it still drives like a DD at part throttle. Thanks probuilt trans again for the extra parts that made this baby shift like it does.
This is the first time ever that this car has ever shifted so perfectly. Chasing 12's is going to be easy now. And to think I was just about to turn the boost up a tad. I think where im at with 10psi will net me 12s all day. And if I feel eager I can always just use the 2 step for a anti lag when its not a points weekend.

Speaking of transmissions, I'll get to bring my TH350 home next weekend! It's built to withstand 600hp, should last me a while. Going to be loads of fun manually shifting this beast.

Manual shifting is awsome bud. Believe me. Im loving my stick shift car now. The only thing though is im glad i kept the automatic in OD. Shifting manual in town to downshift and upshift was tiring really fast.
I bet if this tranny hold up and I use the anti lag. Ill give your V8 a run for your $$$. May seem like a joke but youve gotta be in a turboed car when you pushing 10psi just sitting there then launching...
Cant wait to see ya at the track. Your going to the spring warm up right???

Restricting the tune at points meets down to 12.00 as you know. It'll be awesome though, I think I'll smoke you in the first 660', then you'll come flying by. I'm hoping I have enough torque to lift the front wheels. Aiming for 60' times in the 1.50 range.

Of course I'm going to the Spring Warmup, after waiting to race since October, you think I'd wait any longer than I have to?

Re: Ohio?
Nah, still Sportsman, I'll run 12.0x on Saturdays and 11.5x on Wednesdays. I should have it running in 3 weeks, but it won't be done. Plan is to have it on the road by April 1st, then do subframe connectors last. Can't do them without the car complete pretty much lol.
Yeah, I've pretty much dumped all my savings into her, but never really had anything to buy before, so I saved up quite a bit of money. Sucks looking at my bank account and it's not there anymore, but I know I'll have so much fun with this car it'll all be worth it lol! I just moved out of the house, and I have a steady job, so I really don't have much else to put money into at the moment, may aswell put it into something I love doing. You know how that goes!
Can't wait to see yours in action too bud. I want a ride next weekend while you're around! Give me a taste of the hard launches before I finish mine up lol. I'm thinking Sunday I'll be picking up my trans in Bellevue, if you're around that day, I'll just stop out while I'm there.
Once this one is done, thinking about a new project for the end of this year/next year, once I get some $$$ saved up again. You'll need to help me with that one Mark
Thinking about buying a cheap 4th gen, dropping a 6.0 LS into it, and turboing it. Not a bracket car, but a fast street car. I'll be putting a cage in that one lol. All still in the planning stages of course though!

Re: Ohio?
will a t-5 hold up to the power/torque of a turbo 4.3? specifically the turbo 4.3 that went into the syclone/typhoon? i have a block and heads (nearly complete motor, but the intake/harness/ecm i should have soon, where i'm still lost is the fuel system, what pump should i get? is rubber fuel line okay or should i say f it and just use brake line?

Use a walbro 255lph pump. If your reduing all the lines from the gas tank to the engine id use metal or braided hose. Rubber fuel hose is ok for short distances in my mind, but in a long run I feel it should at least be braided.

well right now the car is just a stock 84 z28 i'd keep my 4l60 that was swapped in who knows when, but it doesnt always want to shift, what about some of the s10/blazer 5spd trans? muncie? also might not go with the syclone parts for there being a real lack of them, anyone know much about cpi?

Re: Ohio?
A world class T5 is rated for around 325 ft/lbs. A earlier T5 is less than that. How long it lasts depends on how you treat it and what you do with it. My WC T5 has lived behind a 400+ ft/lbs engine for several years. But I don't drag race it, just track and autocross.

Re: Ohio?
i'm with ya on autocross and tracks, to me and i don't mean to offend anyone but drag racing is just boring, and its over too fast, I'd rather do 5 laps around a roadcoarse then 5 passes down a dragstrip, this car isn't gonna be a 4-500 hp monster, 300 is my goal the only reason i want to turbo it is because in my area all the sbc guys talk **** like theres nothing above a 350, if you can beat em or atleast blow past them with a turbo 4.3 they'll have to shutup, or they'll call me a cheater i don't know.

Re: Ohio?
Youd be surprised on how easily youll obtain 350+ tq out of a turboed car. The T5 may hold up but Ive heard about a few turboed v6 thirdgens that had issues very fast. Mainly the chutch just being toasted. Upgrade the clutch and you should be ok for a bit.

Its not too hard to weld alluminum if you have the tools to do so, not that I have any aluminum piping welded on my car...lol Thankfully im now into my apprentership for pipefitter/welder. Give me some more time and Ill be a machine. Stainless tig is what im trying to perfect ATM.
You ever need some help im down to help ya with some ideas. Tuning is simple. Just learn how to do it before you turbo a engine though. And get a WB o2 sensor first.

Heres one. 10psi of boost, passenger, 28-107Mph pull in about 12 seconds flat.
I still dont feel my datalogg speedo is right though. Does 100Mph @5550 Rpms sound right on a 3.73 gear with the 700r4?

Re: Ohio?
Did you change the speedo gears Mark? Definitely need to do that for the ecm to read the right speed. Although it's an electric speedo, it still reads from the gears in the transmission, which are set up for a 3.23 (I think) rear gear. With a 26" tire, you should be at 115 mph with 3.73s. I think our tires are about 25.6" factory, but I dunno if you got the slicks on there or not. 25.6" puts that calculator at 113 mph. Transmission won't matter since it's a 1:1 third gear, and it won't shift into fourth at WOT.
I definitely think something is off there. You have a gps you can compare it to? I have one if you wanna use it when you're in town this weekend. What day are you coming into town anyway? We can break in my brand new GoPro too

Re: Ohio?
lol I changed the vss buffer for the datalogs. I really dont care what the speedo says. Im looking at data only. But IIRC last year I was pushing 5k though the traps at 102-105 so add in a rough 500 rpms for the dif in gears. I had the GF follow me one day but i wasent positive i got the buffer dialed in right.
Ill be in town saturday but gotta work all day sunday! Double time $$ for me. Loving the union work. But tommorow im just driving the gtp back. Much better mpgs.

Re: Ohio?
Looking for my 1991 Camaro RS. Sold it to a guy in Marion ohio around 2005and he sold it soon afterwards. It had a built carbed 350, T5 with Hurst shifter, 4.10 rear, ttops, aftermarket fuel pump with switch mounted on the left hand side of steering wheel, mechanical temp gauge, Z28 hood and high rise spoiler, in all primer like my profile pic shows. Hope its at a good home, but wouldnt mind buying it back.

My car was dyno tuned today down at smokeys dyno. It made 335 hp and 353 tq at the tires. Not bad for an average built NA 350.

Grew up in Vandalia (Dayton area), but in Hawaii for military purposes. Getting ready to move back to the mainland, but going to TN. Still have friends in Dayton & C-bus, so I will be up that way once in a while.
