Bad news.

Don't know why I didn't check at the BBQ (Which btw, was awesome) But I pulled the dipstick and Found little metal specks, everytime I redipped the stick, I got more metal. Who knows whats wrong, I am still open to opinions as to what may have caused my sudden knocking that got worse over the coarse of yesterday and today, But the sound dissapears under any kind of load/throttle. I can't really cry and moan cuz that won't fix anything, Best thing to do is weigh my options and choose the next coarse of action. If I pull the engine now, I can dig deep and locate what is wrong. I am sure the block can be reused, so perhaps all I need is a new kit (all forged this time). I'm thinking if it does come to that, I am gonna give a 396 stroker kit a shot. But this time set it up for lower compression. About 9:1. That would leave plenty of room for boost or whatever I decide in the future.

That's too bad. I think I'd drag it back down to the shop that built it and demand they fix it. Good luck.

Did you put the engine together or have a shop do it? Either way, that sucks! The engine in my blue car took a crap on me 6 miles after first putting it in. The distributer gear ate away from the cam, so my builder rebuilt it, luckily for free (I guess for a $6.8k engine, long block only, he should) Best of luck man...

Well the first one was just a topend/cam package I did on the stock 160k stock bottem end, It was inevitable, and this one, who knows till I tear it down. But doing this is a hobby, and I can't be so mad about it. i can just learn from my mistakes (if thats the case) and try again.

Shop won't do ****, not worth my time. Anyways I can't wait to tear it down. The cylinder #2 always pissed me off from when it first leaked coolant from the spark plug hole, to the colder then average header, and the oil soaked spark plug. I think if I have a problem, it is from that area. I already have my canfield heads sold, I plan to pickup the new AFR eliminators to put back on. I also will have a new cam put in, (slightly bigger) and long tubes, Hopefully sometimes I look at it like all I will need is to re ring the pistons and get new rod bearings, but another part of me hopes something is tweaked so I can put in new H beam rods and forged pistons. I will make my final decision once I tear it down this weekend hopefully. All I can gaurantee is that I will have new kickass heads, better cam, and bigger headers! watch out guys I am going to come back with a vengeance!

TriviZ, stop blowing up motors . I hear that Calico sell coated Rod and Main bearings for under 100 bones. In addition, hooray for AFR eliminators. I am tryinh to talk 68 camaro Matt in to buying a set.

If y'all are closeby at Will's pad, which I think is not far from me, holla.

Bummer you have to tear down and start again man, but it sounded pretty bad.
You went through all that time and $ for those parts, eesh.
Like you said though, good learning experience each time.
That setup just wasn't meant to be.
Nice heads/big cam/HSR + 383 and only 3 tenths faster than my mild TPI, which should be faster too.
I know you'll do better this time.

I lied guys, I am doing it this friday, so I'm sure most ya'll are working, but if not, swing on by, I will be their all day until darkness I'm sure. I just want to get the top end torn down completely, and get the exhaust and Y pipe off so It can be ready to be sold. Hopefully I see something wrong when I pop them heads off. But check this out, In two weeks my buddy at work will have the cash to buy the heads off me, right away I will be ordering the new AFR eliminators, and for cam, I have decided on the new comp xfi, 242/248 duration 584/579 lift 113lsa. Oh and since Mike is purchasing my stealthram, that money will go towards my new intake.

Sounds good TraviZ, I'll at least give you a call.

I doubt you will see anything with the heads off, my moneys on a rod / main bearing with how it sounded.

What intake are you going with now? MiniRam?

Well since #2 cylinder always been messed up, I know that had a bad missfire. I want to know why. And besides the knock, I hope this is another problem all together.

When I first threw together the 355 thats in my car now (back when it was a 350) I gambled that the lower end was cool.

Then it sounded like a jackhammer at idle just like yours.

Turns out I smoked all the main bearings but at least I did some 1-tire-fire donuts in the Hell Camino to make it all worthwhile, because like your motor, I couldn't hear it under load.

Ahh main bearings huh? Wonder what causes the noise only at idle. Think I can salvage the crank or will I need it turned 10/10?

Mine needed a whole new rotating assembly (forged)...

Only way to tell will be when you pull the motor and pop that oil pan off.

Why did you need new rods/pistons? I think I want new pistons (forged anyways) but I would liek to save the crank.

Well my crank was so bad (also thanks to the previous owner) that it wasn't worth the $$$ to fix it, much easier to start fresh.

I got forged pistons for the same reason you did.

Got it balanced / blueprinted too which I love.
