Colorado salt car

The newest issue of Camaro Performers has an '85 Z28 salt racer in it. Whats cool is that the guy is from Colorado. If I am correct I think it is the same guy that did irocbirdbuilder's heads. Pick up an issue, looks cool.

From the stance of the car he must have borrowed irocbirdbuilders air bags J/K.

Yep, same guy, I'm thinking of having him work on my AFRs as well, IF I can swing the ca$h...

I didn't figure anyone else would be interested in LSR/salt-type racing, every time I've asked, pleaded, BEGGED for help with things like choosing a cam for the salt on these F-body boards, all I hear is the electronic equivalent of chirping crickets... (So I've pretty much stopped mentioning it except for our local meetings...) Thankfully, I think I'm getting close to finding a cam that'll work on the salt, AND let me pass emissions - I HOPE!

The guy's name is Dave Sarno, I'm trying to swing some free time so that I can "pick his brain" a bit about running on the salt - from what I can tell, he knows just a LITTLE bit about what it takes to go fast on the salt...

What's REALLY cool is that I just found out that he's real close to me, I'm thinking I might just take my heads over there tomorrow, & see what he has to say... :metal: (Of course the danger there is that I'll wind up spending 4 hours asking questions about tires, aero, etc. & he'll bill me for his time!)

For those of you who might be wondering what his car looks like, here's a pic for ya...

(Not that I've been studying up on this stuff or anything...)

I actually found last night a thread that the owner of that car started last night to tell everyone about the article. I posted to him that he should come to the southern rockies board and meet up with us.

Just spent a few minutes on the phone with him, he seems to feel that I should be able to make it into the 150 club with the mods I have (or have planned)!!

Now that would be cool as hell, there are less than 40 people who have gotten their names into that group!

(BTW, where were you able to find that magazine?)

So, would you still be able to pass emissions with the set up to be in the 150 club or more of a race only type of car???

Well theoretically, I should be able to do it while still passing emissions - but I suspect that a lot of that is going to depend on which cam I wind up with, & the tune I get...

We'll see, the cam is one of the things I'm hoping to discuss with him...

V8rumble - I found the magazine at the super wally mart. Not sure if they stock the same rags at every store. Hope that helps.

That does help, thanks Brandon. I'll check my local Wally-world, & if it's not there, I'll start hitting King Soopers, or one of the newsstands near here...

v8rumble had said that this guy was mad at his experience here, and would not be coming back. I read the thread that he was mad about and someone called him an attention *****. I don't care what you call me, my car was in a magazine doing 225 mph - thats the only reply you need for this. I hope someone down in that area can talk with him and get him back. We should also try to get him in MHTG.

Yeah, while I was down there talking to him I mentioned our group, & that's when he started talking about all of that... One of the things he said was that it seemed that of all the fast guys who were actually doing things, none of them were associated with the internet boards...

I figured I'd give him a little bit of time to cool down a bit, then maybe see if he's a bit more amenable to actually meeting some of the others in our group. He did say that if anyone in the group had any questions about the salt, or about cylinder heads, that he'd be willing to talk to 'em - just keep in mind that he's in the real busy part of the season right now... (I've even thought about asking him if he'd come to one of our meetings for a bit of Q&A later on when the weather gets too crappy to do anything...)

Heck, I still haven't bought my cam yet, & he's a reseller, so that might give me an excuse to talk to him in a little while too... We'll see how it works out..
