Really Nervous...
Never ran any car at a track before, so i figure do it while i can right? Local 1/8 mile opens test and tune april 17, should be ready by then. I'm pretty sure i know what to do staging wise, and safety wise. Being t and t i hope it's not busy as hell and i can get some guys help while i'm there.
Car: 89 305 tpi 5 speed with locker and 308's. Need to find some good 26x10s for my older rims.
What i'm worried about is my trans and rear....I'm almost done installing all my nitrous ****, and plan on hitting it with ~100 off the line. I've done all the n2o safety stuff so i'm pretty sure the motor will be fine
Questions: What rpm should i launch at? can i simply side step the clutch? Whats the chances of the trans or rear grenading? i got a 18" trailer but don't want to bring it if i don't have to.
Thanks, Kyle

Re: Really Nervous...
first and foremost......make some NA passes before doing the nitrous. and the possibilities of you grenading trans/rear end are very high if you are side stepping the clutch....and that's NA. i would run radials and a stock clutch so that you'll either spin the tires or slip the clutch instead of making shrapnel

some drag radials. i would also slip the clutch instead of just dumping it. dumping the clutch is asking for broken parts.

Re: Really Nervous...
you'll want to do some "quick slipping" as you launch as opposed to a side step. side steps with stock clutch and rearend will destroy everything from the clutch back on a stock thirdgen at the track. makes for a fun show though
with the power you're looking at a good bfg drag radial would do what you need it to. you can pick up a 235/60/15 bfg drag radial all day long for pretty cheap, and they'll fit on the stock 15x7 z28 wheels without so much sidewall bulge that you don't get any contact patch on the ground.
definitely make some n/a passes first. racing at the track is different than driving fast down a street. the car will act differently than you've ever had it feel. it'd be prudent for you to get used to how the car acts going down a prepped surface first.
biggest thing: have fun! take your time and don't let the track crew rush you. i can't stand it when i'm trying to do my burnout and get ready to stage and the track crew is tapping their feet. it's me in the car, and i'm the one about to ****** the wheels off the ground. i want to be ready for it, so i take my time after my burnout and readjust a bit in the car, making sure i'm totally ready for the hit on the green.

haha have you seen them explode?! Driving it home is what i want to accomplish lol. I'll look into those radials, and try to slip it a little. How do you get any type of consistant 60's with a manual? i know i'll be horrible the first 10 passes, i just want to improve. thanks for the pointers guys!

so long as you're driving it the same way every time, technically the car should do the same thing every time. personally i've only ever made 1 pass in a stick car and i'd never driven the car before so it didn't go so well lol. it will take some experimentation on what RPM to launch from so that you dont spin or bog.
