starter enable switch
Hey y'all
can anyone tell me where the starter enable switch is located on a 92 firebird? Ive been told that is behind the kick panel encased in goo, but i have yet to find this mysterious piece of electronic crap. I would like to bypass it, but cant do that till it is located.

Re: starter enable switch
which ever is attached to the key that prevents the vehicle from starting. I can start my car with a remote switch that is attached directly to the starter, but not with the key itself.

Re: starter enable switch
He said he could start the car by jumping the starter, so the VATS module probably is fine, just the relay went out.

Re: starter enable switch
If you can start your car and it runs, then the VATS is not the issue - a bad pellet in the key or a bad VATS system would not allow the car to run - VATS cuts off the injectors at the ECM, so if the car runs after starting, VATS is doing it's job.
So, your issue is with the starting circuit. Either the starter enable relay, or the neutral safety switch (NSS). I wouldn't "bypass" this relay - it would be quite involved to do so - it's just a relay, they usually last years and years - replacement would be much easier.
If replacing the relay doesn't help, then you have a NSS issue, try replacing it next.

Re: starter enable switch
I found the relay on top of the fuse block. I ground the black wire and the car will start through the key now. There was no square of black goo behind my kick panal. I did get the problem fixed though. Thanks for all of your help, I appreciate it.
Re: starter enable switch
