stock 305 tpi with procharger, 12's possible
I have an 85 trans am with the 305 tpi. I know i would have to convert to the serpentine style belts to run the procharger. Is it possible to get 12's on street tires with a stock 305 tpi, procharger, edelbrock intake and runners,58mm throttle body, and hedders,i want to be able to run on 93 octane so no crazy boost.Or low 13's . I do want a different engine in my car but i think it would be cool to have a fast 305tpi and then i wouldnt have to pull the engine. The car has 53xxx miles on it.

Wow old thread!!!
But a boosted 305 should go high 12's setup right in good conditions. Sticky tires, 2800 stall or so, 10psi. SHould run.
I went 12.95 with just 254whp. A bolt on 305 car can do 200whp. 10 Psi should make closer to 300whp or more I'd think. Simple turbo math predicts 320's whp. Thats way more than necessary to go 12's

Re: stock 305 tpi with procharger, 12's possible
Yeah, real old thread.
My bone stock 1986 TPI 305ci with 10 PSI of intercooled boost and 93 octane went 15.00 sec at 89-90 MPH in the quarter with a stock 700R4 - 4x4 transfer cased (loss) 5000 lb vehicle and slight tire spin (posi-3.73 gear-28" stock tire). That comes out to about 295 RWHP. I launched at 1500-1600 RPM with the stock converter. Any more RPM would make it do a 'brake stand' at the line.
The engine is stock right down to the HEI cap, spark plugs, and 48mm TB.
Assuming a 3600lb car that would come in at 13.4 ET, but using Orr89RocZ's numbers that would put you at mid-high 12's.

Most of these cars are in the 3300-3400 lbs range. You can get drag slicks/skinnies and be 3450 lb raceweight if your 150-175 lbs. Much over 260whp can get high 12's if the weather conditions cooperate. Most average conditions will give lower 13's

Re: stock 305 tpi with procharger, 12's possible
I wasn't sure so I estimated on the heavy side. Between the lighter weight and possibly using a slightly higher stall converter I don't see mid-12's being difficult with a stock 305ci on boost.
I forgot to mention the exhaust is two 2.25" duals with Dynomax turbo (not bullet) 3" IN/OUT mufflers. They are the highest flowing of the turbo mufflers and support up to 250HP each. They are as quiet as a stock exhaust system if not even quieter. A couple of K&N air fliters too. The injectors are Ford 30 #/hr. The engine itself is stock.
EDIT: The 15.00 ET and 90 MPH was consistent in the truck so it wasn't a freak thing or anything like that. From memory the 60' time was 2.1 - 2.2 sec

Are your converting the times to sea level DA? My 84 was 3255 race weight and made 271 rwhp N/A and the best I ever ran it was 13.5x @ 101.xmph all day and night. The DA is typically around 4000 IIRC at the track I alwasy ran at. which would put it at 12.9's.

I did not convert that to sealevel times, but the DA that day I ran 12's was 188 ft. Our track is at just under 1200 ft elevation and it was in the lower 40 deg range that day so we had great air.
Normal 1500-2000 ft DA with 50-60 deg air, I seen 13.2's.
13.5 at 4000 ft could put that car well into the high 12's.

I ran 103.8 (IIRC) with a lousy 60' time and a requisite 13.8 ET with a stock 305 (with headers) and 7-8psi of boost from a Vortech. I have zero doubts after some tuning and more boost (say 14psi) that the car would have run mid 12's or better with traction. Full weight car as well.
A Vortech on a stock 305 I can tell you from experience will easily surpass the 18psi mark.

I'm running 14psi of boost on that run i had a 1.79 60', i don't know what RPM's i launched at, i was new to the track so i launched easy, probably can get low 12's with a better 60'
Re: stock 305 tpi with procharger, 12's possible
I think they are ZQ8 S10 wheels.
IMO though why bother with a stock 305 TPI, you could have the intake off in a weekend and fully port the base/plenum and pick up enough power to make it worthwhile after you stick the supercharger on. If you could find a set of runners that would be great, but I would just Siamese the base and not even bother. Add a cam in and pick up even more, the 85s had a decent cam but that doesn't mean that slightly bigger wouldn't hurt either. It would make getting where you want to be significantly easier in the long run.
Either that or have another engine and keep cranking the boost till she blows.
