MAF and Turbos

I am new to MAF tuning and heres a question.

Will a MAF engine detect and compensate for boost levels in the range of 0-8 psi coming from a Turbo (RMT if thats relevant)?

nope

you need to change computers or run an FMU.

If you don't max. out the MAF it would work fine. Most of the time power adders max out the MAF so an aftermarket or larger GM would be necessary along with a signal translator.

There is no boost GM MAF ECM that I know of. I have only seen the MAP ECMs with boost code. Maybe GM/Holden has a boosted MAF application.

yes and know, more of them that i have seen in summit only rase fpr on a 1:1 ratio, to run a 12.5.1 afr with stock size injectors its sead you need a fmu with 12:1

There are a ton of variables when choosing the FMU rate of gain. A regulator with a 1:1 boost ratio is not an FMU/RRFPR. As far as I know, all vacuum fuel pressure regulators (on EFI applications) increase the fuel pressure about 1:1 with boost pressure. The best FMUs are the ones that have no set ratio, and are fully adjustable, such as the Cartech FMU or Vortech Super FMU. I personally feel that the Cartech regulator is the easiest to tune and best bang for the buck in FMU's, even at a cost of around $200. I have used them in several applications successfully.

IIRC, even a stock 350TPI is near or past the flow limit of the MAFS. Even if the MAFS could sense the extra airflow, there is no way that the stock injectors could flow enough fuel to feed the extra airflow, even if the injectors were hung open at 100%DC (unless you increased the fuel pressure, such as with an FMU).

You can blow through a stock TPI MAFS with a turbo or supercharger and have it work well. My TT IROC uses a Vortech SFMU, Ford SVO 24# injectors, and a stock pump with a 50/70 T-REX inline booster pump. I use a stock ECM and the charge air goes through the stock MAFS after it passes through the intercoolers. Its been reliable and very driveable for almost four years now. It gets 20mpg on the highway and runs mid 12's in the quarter at 6psi of boost (its more driver than racer).

so alls you need is bigger injectors and a booster pump if you put the maf after the intercoolers but befor the tb?

Just thought of something. MAF senses airflow by how much current it takes to keep the wires heated while the airflow cools. Would the IAT tables be setup to compensate for the abnormal heated air?
