please don't hurt me.

would it be worth anything to use a smog pump as a centrifigal supercharger?? soe one once told me that it would be worth something like 40hp. i think it's ridiculous hearsay, but what do you guys think???

I saw an artical on the internet that talked about that. The smog pump was used as a supercharger for a briggs and straton go-cart engine. The author of the artical said he once used it for a V8 application. He had like 6 of them run in series. The first one's outlet would connect to the next one's inlet and so on throught all 6. He said they were very efficent and it drove all 6 pumps well enough to create a decent about of boost for even a V8. The 1st pump attach to the drive belt was rigged with a AC clutch so he could turn the rig on and off at will. He had a picture of the go-cart setup but not the V8 setup. I dont know if it would really work or not but I found it kinda interesting. If anyone know how to make that work I would be interested in knowing too. Might be more feasible on a 4 banger though.

I am in no way saying this will work or you should try it. But you asked so here is the info I know about it. So don't look at me like a dumb A$$ hahaha

Maybe I will strap one of those bastards to my 1997 KX 500 dirtbike!!! I am going to Silver Lake Sand Dunes this weekend and I would be sure to wins some races with that baby!!!

I wouldn't try to use one to super (sub?) charge a V8 but you could potentialy make a horsepower gain (particularly on a boosted application) using one to draw a vacuum on the crankcase. You would have to use one with an intake duct or pipe (that you can plumb to a valve cover or lifter valley) instead of the type with the intake behind the pulley.

Actually, have you ever thought about just attaching a rubber band to a little propeller near your intake? Might have to wind it up every now and then, but it would probably look just as pitiful :P

I am in with the idea that it would probably not work. I had a Turbo Coupe and the little IHI, about the size of a T3, had a hard time keeping the 4 banger fed.

In the circle track race shop I worked at, the used them crankcase evac pumps. But, there are very few of us on this board that turn their motors high enough to need one. Maybe on a SC'd application. I don't know, nor am I going to speculate on that. I'll leave that to the people that are running blowers on their cars.
