how does this cam look?

I spoke with a rep from comp and we decided on this cam grind which includes a .520/.540 lift on a 236/248 duration and 113 LSA.

this will be for my 383 with procharger and 15psi aproximately.

Depends on a lot of things, what heads are on the motor?

I think that'll work pretty good.

I would call around and try to get different opinions from other cam companies; cammotion, howards, bullet is a good starting place. By doing so you can get a general average of what the best cam would be, then get whatever manufacturer to grind it for you. I bought a custom ground comp cam and found out it was totally wrong for my setup because the guys at comp dont really do anything accept plug it into a computer and it does the rest, some of the other companies might have a few ideas that will add to the performance, but that cam does sound good, maybe a little light on the lift, but still sounds like a good starting point

In general, that cam looks fine for a ?Stupa'charged engine?. As to what you want out of it......who knows. What about idle, what about part throttle, what about stall speed, what about gearing, what about max HP?

ok as I explained to the tech, its more for race, but i need to cruise around as well when i want to hang with my buddies. my old 230/236 duration cam was completely streetable imo. i run a 3000stall but when my 700 gives, im going t56. gears will be 3.73 or greater depending on how long the trans lasts. and hp mark is around the 600 range. and this is with afr eliminators and a mini ram.

No worries about smog police? As an ex-Californian I know that can be an issue. That cam is on the edge (smog wise), and is the Mini ram now smog legal? I dont know. Besides that stuff, the combo sounds strong.

accel gen 6 and long tubes are not smog legal? Silly californians...

Yea, that all sounds like a very good match. It should go like crazy.

Re: how does this cam look?

you dont need a LSA that big forced induction just runs alittle better with wider people still run 110 lsa's with turbos and S/c

117 sounds like a stock lsa, in the comp and crane cataloges, look at their blower cams, usually 112-114 and speaking with procharger, they said 113 its great.

Re: how does this cam look?

well im just stating what i have come accross in my research i am in college right now taking a high performance classes and when we go on the subject of turbos/superchargers and cams i made the class last an extra hour finding information about it. and that is the cam that we figured out is best for my set up..... might not be what everyone thinks but will see what the numbers are when i get it built and on the dyno at school...my high performance director has been drag racing for 30 years adn knows his stuff and he has a tt69 camaro that runs 6.59 street legal so he knows what he is talking about....

Re: how does this cam look?

well a wide lsa for a turbo set up is different than for a Supercharger
as a lot of scavenging with turbos can be bad but to small a LSA will also be less effecient for a S/c

And going to big with LSA will force duration lower and also limit the effecientcy of a turbo set up WRT hydrualic cams. mechanical however might not be so restrictive
