Attached Pics come up as a Link, not a PIC??
Since the site has come back up, whenever I post a pic it comes up a link, and not an attachment showing the pic???? Am I doing something wrong? The pics are small enough and should post up? I just want my pretty pictures to be seen....
Thanks
Thanks
i think he means like this:

One of the moderators here has that same issue.
The file appears to still get uploaded into the database, but something is happening (incorrectly) at that point. Likely something only Dirk can dig into and fix.

I had that problem a while back. IIRC I updated my IE and never had a problem again. I also swapped computers a week later so I can't wholeheartedly attribute the update to the fix.
Used to be that you could hit 'edit' to see how they entered everything, that doesn't work now so I can't see if they typed it in or if they tried it as an attachment. Maybe they could try using the html tag method to see if that works for them?

At first i wondered if it wasn't browser related, and was going to ask what browser was being used when to upload these files.
In the other case, i was able to download the attachment that was posted, despite the fact that the link appeared to be local to that user's computer. So the file does upload into the database. It's up to the software to properly link the file, which appears to be the issue here. Since the file is uploading into the database, it would seem to me that the issue possibly could be on TGO's end, since the user's end is sort of already "finished" its job by having supplied the file. i would think.
However, i never ran the attachment feature, so i have little experience with it.

Yes, it may help to know what browser they are running, and if any firewall/security programs. i think it may be a long shot though, as you can see the picture is getting uploaded into the database. Same as the other example in the other thread. Since the software is what properly links the file, that is why it seems it may be a TGO software glitch. Instead, it keeps the local link. However, as i mentioned, i didn't run the attachment feature so i have little experience and knowledge.
If it turns out to be a glitch in the system, since Dirk is upgrading to a new server, and may also be upgrading to vB 3.x sometime i would think, the issue may be on hold and may even go away with the upgrade, if it isn't a user related issue.

Without knowing much about the attachment feature at this time, and being only on the user side, it is a stab in the dark.
But what version of IE are you using? Also, are you using Windows XP Service Pack 2? Or XP Service Pack 1?
Also, are you running any third party type security programs? Such as Norton Security?
If I was you, to help eliminate a lot of this, i'd download and try FireFox. FireFox is a fast growing, free, browser program. It has pros and cons just as Internet Explorer.
Perhaps give FireFox a download and a quick try here to see if you can use the attachment feature or not.

Same problem, everything worked great (posted pictures) before the site crashed. Now I can't post any pictures without a link from my personal files coming up. So when can this be corrected??? Soon I hope.

JT..... I am not really sure which version of IE I am using. I go to properties and it doesn't really say anything about which version it is. Also, I don't know which service pack I am using of XP. This has to be related to the site itself as everything worked fine before the "crash" and now nothing works. I have heard it from several other people with the same problem. I sent Dirk an email, but he must be busy as he has not replied yet.
To find out about the service pack, you can right-click on My Computer and select properties. You should see Microsoft Windows XP. If you have Service Pack 2, it will show that listed as well.
To determine your IE version, in an IE browser window, you can click on Help and then About. It should show the version.
You are right, i have suspected it is a site issue, as your PC is uploading the image to the TGO database, and really, the vB software is responsible for proper linking. But it is quite strange on how many users have no issues (like myself), while only certain users do. i fairly familiar with vB and know that user groups exist and such, but that does not seem to apply for something like this.

In the past few days, images I've tried to upload also were posted a links, not images. Perhaps it's related to the file naming convention... I"m using XP, SP2, updated OS and MS IE.
My sig image is linked from my website and displays ok, but I'll try a test image of my son with his '92 Z-28 during our trip through Death Valley as an upload from my computer...
Worked ok now, the file name had no spaces -- DeathValley72-1.jpg

Now I'll try to upload a file with spaces in the name, just to check those types of filenames are accepted by the site software.
Kingman Route66 Z-28 72.jpg -- uploaded and displayed fine! All is good, at least for me, at this time, in this message area [grin].
The photo is of my son Martin and I at Mr. D'z classic drive-in on Route 66, Arizona, during our recent 2,000 mile midwest road trip.

I too recently had this same problem. I ended up hosting the pic to get it to show. The next day I was able to post a pic normally without any IE or windows updates.
I came to the conclusion that it is a site problem, bcause I can post attachments from the same file with NO PROBLEMS. Nothings changed on my end and been using XP2 all the time with all the updates.

I sent Dirk an email....no replys.....
HELP US DIRK
HELP US DIRK
i'd imagine that Dirk has been very busy getting the new server ready to take over. Since that affects everyone here, and was likely his original plan, i'm guessing he is trying to get the new server transfer taken care of, first. So you may have to wait it out for a little while.

Have you tried out firefox yet? It's really rather good.Hell of a lot fewer pop-ups and malware problems... until it gets -really- popular anyway.
