When I'm faster, then I'll show up. And even then, I might wait till I get my paint job done. (it's peeling )

hey gunny, don't you remember the nissan commercials? "life's a journey ... enjoy the ride". if you wait till it's done, no one will have any appreciation of where it was when you got started.

a lot of the fun of this hobby is hanging out with people with similar interests, getting into friendly rivalries, sharing information, telling lies, giving alibis and running scared. ha ha ha.

my car ran a best of 16.5 .... a dude in a 4 door buick beat me by 3 car lengths. i had a blast! met some nice guys.

had an even better time at the braselton bash at year one. talked to kevin, the guy at year one who owns the 88 formula project car on their site ... met a great guy who owns an awesome 79 camaro who tipped me off to some great people to help with my car. saw lots of great cars.

you see the 4th gen guys hanging together all the time. we should too.

they're having another test and tune this friday night at atlanta dragway. it's only 15 bucks to run, 10 to watch. let's get a bunch of local 3rd genners together to hang out and run the cars a bit.

come on guys, let's do it!

15 bucks to run all night.

you don't need a helmet unless your car runs 13.99 or faster.

all they check for in tech is that the battery is secured and there's a catch can on the radiator.

it's fun. i've been drag racing since i was 15 (although this past friday night was my first time in over 15 years).

realistically, you'll be luck to get 5 runs in (maybe a few more if you get there right at 6:30). after 8:00 or so, it takes a good 45 minutes to an hour to get another run in.

the fun of it is hanging out and b.s.ing in the staging lanes while you're waiting to run. you meet a lot of nice people.

i'm looking through the posts on here for the email addresses of as many georgia 3rdgen owners as i can to invite them out. there's a lot of fun, free/cheap car things going on ... we need to hook up at some of them and get to know each other. why are there so few of us 3rdgeners in the afca and the gafba (well, maybe i understand with the gafba ... been trying to join that for over 6 months and still can't get it to work.)?

let's represent! ha ha ha

I usually go to Silver Dollar Raceway in south GA (that is where most of the GAFBA guys go). But Atlanta Dragway is about an hour closer to my house, so I have been trying to make it out there this season. I will probably go when it gets cooler or maybe sooner if we get some more people to meet up with.

The GAFBA shootout is October 12th at Silver Dollar. Most of the cars are 4th gens so my car looks slow. It would be nice if some more thirdgens would show up. I always have a great time even if my car is one of the slowest there.

I need a paint job as well. I wish it was just peeling...my car is three different colors. FYI a white body with black primered fenders doesn't look to great. Who would have thought???

Oh yeah, that 4 door Buick didn't happen to be a Regal GS, now did it???

dude, all i know is it was green. it's kinda hard to tell more than that when all you can see is tail lights!

your point about the gafba is right on. i saw them out at the f-body gathering in may. real nice people, but all almost 4th gens.

let's participate! i'm not trying to start another club or anything, but why not get more 3rdgeners involved in those clubs and let's hang out.

the braselton bash was a hoot this past saturday. let's get all the local 3rdgenners together at the next one. let's go to the drag strip for test & tune and even the open days at road atlanta.

they're having another test and tune this friday night. let's do it.

When I go to the track I take the 4th gen, but I might bring out the 88 some time...

Come check out this club sometime, third gen guys are more than welcome: www.atlantacfa.com

Where exactly is atlanta dragway. I have only ever been to silver dollar and road atlanta.

Not that my car will drag all that well with the gearing it has until my new engine goes in (or until I sell it). The car actually runs over 100 mph in the quarter, but is slower in time(15.1 as compared to 14.6).

atlanta dragway is in conyers, exit 149 off of 85, right at the tanger outlet mall.. i think road atlanta is around exit 129. it's the same exit you get off of for year one

It's actually Commerce, the only thing of any note in Conyers is the horse park. And I hate horses (live ones), they crap everywhere.

the gates open at 6:00, they start running at 6:30. they're usually late getting started.

it's 15.00 to run your car. 10.00 if you just want to be a spectator.

if you run, you get in the tech line after you pay your admission. they'll look to see that your battery is secure and that you have a catch can on your radiator. then they'll put a number on your car and you're all set.

i figure we should all just look for third gens and park together. shouldn't be hard to do.

i don't get off work till 6, so it'll be 7 or so before i get there.

tip: get there early if you can. you'll be able to get a few runs in before it gets crowded.

and don't worry about the prom, beast. how are you going to know how much the new prom improves your performance if you don't run it beforehand?

there are so many people reluctant to come to the track because their car isn't as fast as they'd like it to be. come and see ... there's lots of people running 17 and 19 and 21 second cars and trucks and having a blast!

years ago, i blew the engine in my chevelle and stuck a 283 2v motor i paid 50.00 for in it till my "super rebuild" on my 350 was done. for more than a year, i took my chevelle to the track more sundays than not and bracket raced it on a 17.0 dial in. i can honestly say i had as much fun doing that as i did a couple of years later when the car was cracking the 11s.

and boy, was it cheaper. ha ha ha

a couple of tips for making sure your car is ready to run.

1. check the oil. bring a spare quart.

2. check the coolant. make sure it's full.

3. check the tire pressure. make sure you bring a tire gauge.

4. check all the lug nuts for tightness.

5. check the battery to make sure it's secure.

6. check to make sure your radiator return is hooked up with no leaks.

7. bring a flashlight and a few basic tools

8. bring cash for the steak burgers and fries. they're pretty good.

see? no big deal. these are all things we should be checking regularly, anyway.

I will hopefully be there. The weather lately has been pretty bad, so I won't be surprised if we see some rain Thursday or even Firday. But if the weather is good and I get some time to test out my car (I have been dealing with some overheating issues among other things), I will see y'all there.

had a good time. 3504mula was the only other one from the board there. we got to hang out and talk quite a bit. he's a real nice guy. we talked about getting a group together to go down to silver dollar on october 12th, when they have the f-body shootout.

there was a blue 3rd gen z-28 there, but we never hooked up with him to find out if he was from here. we met another guy with a burgandy z and recruited him. ha ha ha.

i got 5 runs in. 17.1, 17.0 and 3 16.6s. the car was hooking up so hard it bogged, causing the two 17 second runs. my reaction times still suck.

had a good time just looking around. this guy has this old, 70s toyota with a wankel rotary out of an rx-7 that is amazing. it revs to about 10,000. he has a 750 holley on it and does burnouts that get the whole crowd freakin'! then there was the hot babe driving the supra running 12.40s!

the next fast friday test & tune is friday, september 19th. there's also another free braselton bash car show at year one on saturday, the 22nd. we should all hang out.

dynolab has a thursday night special where you get three runs on the dynojet for 50.00. we should get a group of us together to go up there this thursday night.

Yeah, I had a good time, too. I couldn't hook up my street tires at all. 60 ft. were in the 2.5's. Ran a best of 14.9 and two 15.0's. Still fighting an overheating problem, hopefully I will have time to fix it this week.

What type of therm do you have in your car 3504mula? Are your fans coming on and are you icing down the plenum between runs?

BlackBeast-
I thought it was my thermostat, so I changed out the Hypertech 160 for a Stant 180 about a week ago. My car does not overheat when I am at the track or when I am just cruising around town. It only does it when I am coming to an exit off the interstate after cruising at about 80. It will not even start to overheat when I am on the interstate cruising, just after I stop and then start going again. It did it again on the way home and I just pulled over, turned it off for about a minute cranked it up and went from 240+ right back down to 180 just sitting there!!??? Like there was something that came unclogged. Does that make sense?

Any ideas are apprecited. Oh yeah, I just replaced one of the fan motors and they are both working, but they stay on all the time, which would probably help cooling if anything. Maybe I should take Sean's advice and go have the system flushed. I have changed the fluid many times but have never had it flushed by a shop.....

Thanks-
Jonathan

How do you know it's overheating?? Are you just looking at temp guage? Or does it drive differently? Flushing your radiator would be good...what mods do you have?

Yeah, I am trusting the factory gauge. Is there any way to see if it is accurate? It does not seem to drive different when it overheats. Mods are in sig below.

Thanks for telling me to look at your sig block... Now that I've established that I can't read let's have a go with it. I would check to make sure that your temp sensor is okay or just replace it with something new. It can't hurt since you aren't seeing any driveability problems when you get hi temp reading. Let me know how it turns out.

The temp sensor is the one in the front of the intake manifold towards the bottom, right?

Hey man,
I looked at that sensor today and the connection that I made was half way off (I was 17 when I started rigging things up on my car). I clipped it on there good and squeezed it so it wouldn't fall off again. Could this have been the cause of my problem? I drove it around town today (about 20 miles) with no problem at all. BUT, I guess the only way to know if this was the problem is to drive it down the highway....
How difficult is it to install an aftermarket (I guess mechanical) temperature gauge??? Would this be a good idea, or just try it out first? I just don't want to run my engine on hot anymore if the gauge is correct. I have hit 260 three times this year, but I have always pulled over to let it cool down.

Thanks alot for the ideas so far.

It's not difficult at all and it would be up to you if you want mechanical or electric guages. You might want to jump on the hi way before you make any changes. YOu might have fixed the problem already.

Of course, my car overheated again to about 230 and went straight back down to normal. Then the rest of the way home, about 10 miles, it did fine....

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Okay, sorry I had to get that out.

I have my doubts about what's going on with your car. Get one of those anti-freeze checkers and Wal-mart and see what the boiling point is for your car. When was the last time you change the radiator cap?

I had one of those coolant testers at my house. It showed boiling point at 225? When I took my cap off it still had pressure since yesterday when I parked it. I guess that is normal. I could also see coolant starting to run down the inside of the radiator.

My cap is about 2 weeks old. Didn't help. Should I get another coolant temp. sensor like you said earlier or just take it to a shop before I start spending money?

Thanks again.

Sounds like you are in need of a new radiator or flush. Better take care of it sooner rather than later.

all they check for in tech is that the battery is secured and there's a catch can on the radiator.
