And the T/A saga continues.......

Man am I having a bad week. Got off work at 7am Saturday morning and went home to get some sleep. Woke up @ 12:30 pm and meet the tow truck driver @ 2pm at Pima and Chapperal to pick up the T/A.

Got the T/A down to the shop in Tempe I always go to and locked it up on the street in front of the shop.

Police stopped by the house about 8:30pm to tell me my car was found at 51st and Oak. It had been stolen from in front of the shop I left it at. They broke the drivers side window and busted up the steering column to get at the ignition.

So the car got towed for the second time today.

What a crappy weekend.

I could not get it started yesterday. But when the truck showed up today it started for a few minutes then died. After he got it to the shop I tried to start it and got one start out of it. After that it would not start. I am very surprised they got it started and drove it about 10 miles before it died on them. They left it abandoned in the road.

Yeah.. if it was stolen any other week, you'd have prolly never seen it again. Damn.. those must have been some pissed off thieves. I can just see the looks on their faces while they're sitting in traffic in a dead stolen car.

No, I don't think you're paranoid at all.. if I lived in a different town, I'd likely have 10x more anti-theft provisions built into my car.. I've spent many hours scheming how to rig up and hide redundant systems of kill switches.. or the interesting temporary kill switch in the turbo V6.. because of the T-5 swap and a lack of time to finish things correctly, I've got the automatic's park/neutral/reverse switch box still hooked up.. and I unhook it and take it with me when I don't want the car started

Man that blows!! Thats why I love my AutoPage system! While back (couple months after I bought my Camaro) I went down to the Chandler Fashion Center with a couple buddies. I parked out in front of Barnes and Noble (bout' a football field worth of difference from the door) and RIGHT before we walked in the front door my pager started going off. We immidiately did an about face and power walked back to the car. Didn't wanna run cuz' I wanted to catch the punk off-guard. Sure enough when we got back to my car there was the 17-18 year old skater punk lookin' kid with a jimmy in my passenger side door. I asked him very calmly, "Hey, you lock your keys in the car?" He looked up in a hurry with this startled OHH #^%! look on his face and replied "Uhh, yeah, I did..." I then pulled the keys out of my pocket and said "Hey, I think I found them....wait, these are mine!" He took off like a bat out of hell but we caught him...

FYI: If you own a Gun-Metal Grey ThirdGen and go to the Chandler Mall, I'd feel pretty safe about parking there!

werd..same here. i have way to many kill switches.*starter, fuel pump #1, fuel pump #2, the battery on/off swith thats hidden by the liscence plate is a good 1 too. i remember 2 or so years ago someone broke into my car, and of course they couldnt get sh*t to run, so they took the deck, but noticed the face plate wasnt in the car, so they just threw the deck on the ground by the car and left.

A word to the wise, never leave a clean thirdgen unattended overnight.

If my car crapped out and had to sit overnight, you would find me sleeping next to it, with my Glock.

Yeah I'd say kill switches are definately necessary, I'd recommend a battery quick disconnect too. The easiest "kill switch" is just to take your coil wire with you wherever you go . Of course this is only for really bad situations. AZIroc, does NHRA allow the battery kill switch to be under the liscence plate? Like if you have the battery relocated to the trunk, can you put the switch under the liscence plate?

Same here. Love that Automatic P/N/R switch you cant bypass it unless you know what your looking for. I've stayed w/ my car eveytime it broke down . Gotta love AAA.

well at least you got your T/A back, alot worse could have happened, IC alot of cars that get flares tossed in 'em.

My buddy's Civic SI just got stolen. He got it back without:

Hood
Mirrors
Engine
Seats
Rims/Tires

So I guess it's all relative, ya know?

******* carthieves!!!!!!

you know Arizona is #1 in the nation for stolen cars? Pretty sad. It's been that way for awhile.

Check it out...

http://phoenix.about.com/cs/crime/a/vehicletheft01.htm

Thieves stole 1.5 million motor vehicles in the United States last year - an average of one vehicle every 25 seconds. According to the FBI's annual statistical report, more than 37,000 vehicles were stolen in Arizona last year.
More than 100 cars are stolen in Arizona every 24 hrs. The prime time for residential car thefts is from 1am to 5am. Shopping malls are also popular theft areas. Arizona ranks #6 in the nation for Identity Theft. The most common areas burglars go to first in a residential burglary are: the Master bedroom, the Den or Office area of the home. Burglars today are targeting safes and file cabinets that contain your personal information. With this information and high tech computer/printer equipment, they can, within 6 hours, have ruined your credit by running up thousands of dollars in charges.
Like 65% of all stolen cars end up in Mexico. I hate this place.

$250 did they rip out the ignition switch or did they just bust up all the plastic and turn signal lever? If its a tilt column parts are still available to fix it, DIY, its pretty simple.

I wish it was legal to hook up 40,000 voltc oil to the steering column and shock those A-holes.

actually they do, but the plate has to be down *in our cars case since they can fold down* or the plate has to be off and nothing in the way. basically it has to be in plain view.. soi just fold the plate down.

whats illegal about that id think if u did that.. and that robery tried to sue u.. im sure between the tiem it happens and u go to court u can take the coil/wires out of the car so it looks like it was never there.. plus u now know who tried to still ur cars, and im sure they will have a record. and the judge would prob dismiss it anyhow.

Actually, we ought to get list of who does have a piece. Then maybe have a gathering out to the desert for some target practice.

I know for a fact that esams and 79_efi_z carry as well as myself.

And of course James is just an old cowboy caught up in the city, LOL.

kill switches and anti theft devices

could we maybe go into detail on some of the kill switch setups and other devices we're maybe using? I'm sure many of us will find them useful.

Well, there's a few things that have to be enabled for the starter to activate, those being:

Clutch/Neutral Safety Switch
VSS Signal
Key Turned to Start

and I think there might be more, my haynes manual isn't relatively close, but put a toggle switch on one of these and you're golden. Some people also use magnetic switches where you need to put a magnet on a certain point to complete the circuit. There are tons of ideas

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...ht=kill+switch

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=164816

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...ht=kill+switch

There's some nice ones out there, I'm starting to reconsider maybe putting another one in
