two way radios!?!?
Whats a good quality two way radio for under $40? After our cruise I realized how much easier having radios would be for when I go up to my cabin with people following or whenever I drive with a caravan and I've got $40 of B-day $$ to burn at Best Buy...

Does it have to be Best Buy (gift certificate?). Fry's has sales all the time. I see two radios for $30 or sometimes $20 advertised a lot. Mine are a pair of Cobras that were on sale for $30 and then a $10 rebate.

Well I've got a $25 gift card for Best Buy (cant think of anything I want from there for under 25 and not CDs-any ideas?) and $20 cash...I can get some $$ if I can get a rebate later, but we dont have a Frys around here...hmm

Best Buy has a good selection. I just went to Radio Shack right before the cruise. Mine were $49.95 (+tax) less the batteries. From what Kevin found out, it had multiple sub-channels. That could come in handy, of course I don't use any of that.
OBTW, some require that you have an FCC liscense prior to operating.

We use the Motorola Talkabout T5420's on our farm up here. They are a little more money but come with rechargeable batteries and a cradle to charge them both at once. The terrain here is flat prairie and we can get up to 5 miles on them on a good day.

The problem with FRS radios is you usually get what you pay for. Motorola has some pretty nice units but you won't get them for $40.
Kevin, how well do you radios work? What is the sound quality like?

The rechargeable Motorola's I have were 109.00CDN so they would be about 69.00US. If you use them alot you will go through 29.00 worth of Duracells pretty fast.
