New Camaro Owner in So Cal

Figured I would introduce myself here. Bought myself an 88 Camaro on Saturday after trying to get one for the past 6 months. It's not in the best of condition interior wise (a lot of cleanup and will probably replace the whole interior) but I love doin that stuff.

I find out the hard way one thing I need to replace. The alternator. Car died on me on my way back, no juice in the battery and the alternator doesn't charge it. No biggy though. Shouldn't be that hard to replace.

Welcome aboard! My first third gen was also an 88, and well that was 4 cars ago now…

Do you have any images of your ride that you might be able to share with us?

It’s not that we’re getting lonely as much as it is that we are looking for new members willing to embrace our lifestyle. Perhaps John Lennon described it best in his "Love" song, imagine that... It may even take a lifetime to find the "one" (pickle) you are looking for.

Oh yeah…if you have a thirg gen that’s cool too…

welcome! Be sure to keep the recipts on the new alternator. They sometimes die right away, but if you get a good one, it should last a while.
(Well actually, the same goes for just about everything else, too)

b's90cam, it's just a regular camaro, V8 305. I'm not too concerned with the motor because I plan swapping it out down the road. Plus it's a t-top which is what I wanted.

JulieGTA, will do. Plus getting the alt from an autoparts store means at least a year warrenty

Too bad you didnt wait a little longer...
You couldve bought a car that, with a lil tuning, could beat any other car here.

Well, because i have no place to put it/work on it, plus I am going to be buying my own place at the end of the year, I am going to sell it.
As far as how much, I havent really thought of a price yet. I will start a seperate thread with the cars numerous mods when the time comes.

Who says I still can't buy it? :P

Half the fun in a car is doing the work yourself though. I was looking for one that needed work that I could fix up.

Not hard to find. Thats a typical 3rd gen.
Almost every member here has a tool box and certain spare parts in the "trunk".

Another newbie

I also just got an 88 Camaro. It's an IROC. I looked high and low for a hardtop car with a T-5. I contacted a couple people on this board during the search (thanks!).

By the way, my Camaro also crapped out (from a bad in-take fuel pump) just as the deal was closing. Such are the ways with old cars. At least I don't have a long commute.

Incidentally, I'm the former owner of a 4th-gen SS, which I sold to get a vehicle better-suited to my growing family and my then-long commute. In the past few months, though, with nothing fun to drive in the stable, I became restless.

A thumpin' V8 is good for the soul.

Just like a well trained Boy Scout "always prepared".

No loaning of spare tires without cash deposit, though.

The photographs weren’t admissible in court. It was the complaints about the boy butter and video cameras in the pup tents that promoted me to a “person of interest”. But that’s water under the bridge…oh well it’s off to the Boys Club of America for community service…

Pssst…does anyone know anything about steam proofing a microphone?

Well, first full day of work on it. Spent a good 3 or so hours at the place I got it from getting parts out of another Camaro, like some engine parts, front bumper and scoop, complete air conditioning unit. Then installed it all on. Not bad. Still don't have pictures though as I forgot to charge the battery in my camera. Will have to take pictures tomorrow.

Interior is clean from dirt and stuff, but is still dirty. I was going to take out all the apholstry and power wash it and possibly steam clean it to get it really clean, but does anyone have any other ways to get it really clean? In the future I plan on replacing the entire interior but for now cleaning it will suffice.

Oh, and in Camaro3 picture, the bumper you see to the left is the one that originally came with the car. I took that off and put the one that is on there now. Makes it look a ton better.
